Anthony Pettis will not be returning to action in his hometown of Milwaukee this August, as his recovery timetable from a torn meniscus has been pushed to its feared latter date.
Pettis had been told by one physical therapist that he'd be able to be healthy enough to return on the Aug. 31 event after being pulled from his fight with Jose Aldo at UFC 163 on Aug. 3. Unfortunately, after seeing the UFC's doctors in Las Vegas, a prognosis of six weeks out instead of three was affirmed.
That's the word from UFC President Dana White, via ESPN.com's Brett Okamoto, following Pettis' trip to the Vegas doctor on Wednesday.
Per Dana White, Anthony Pettis was checked out by UFC doctors today who confirmed he needs 6 weeks recovery. Not good news for Milwaukee.
Penick's Analysis: That's certainly disappointing news for those who were intrigued by the possibility of Pettis stepping in against Benson Henderson in his hometown. But it's got to make T.J. Grant happy. This news means he'll get his fight with Henderson, and at this stage it's probably the smart move for Pettis to hold out on the sidelines, heal up to 100%, and take on the winner of the Pettis-Hendersno fight. Having him come into the cage after the UFC 164 main event in Milwaukee could be the right move, actually, and could bring a huge reaction from the fans in Milwaukee.
