With "The Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung moving into the UFC 163 main event fight against Jose Aldo in Brazil, it left his scheduled UFC 162 opponent, Ricardo Lamas, without someone to face next month in Las Vegas.
The UFC at times will find replacement opponents, but with only a few weeks until the event and Lamas' standing as one of the top featherweights in the world, the UFC's opted to pull him off the card.
Lamas' removal from the event was reported on Tuesday's episode of UFC Tonight on Fuel TV, with a comment attributed to his manager stating that he's hoping to face the winner of the Aldo vs. Jung bout. Further, it's been reported that Lamas will receive his show money for the UFC 162 booking.
Penick's Analysis: It's a shame that Lamas isn't fighting on that card next month, and in this spot for UFC 162 and UFC 163 he's just been caught as the odd man out. That's really too bad, because he had such a fantastic win over Erik Koch in January that he's not getting a chance to follow up on yet. Now, if being pulled from this card gets him the winner of the Aldo-Jung fight, he may take that as a fair consolation because he'll still get the title fight he desires. That would just mean a much lengthier layoff.
