Had Travis Browne defeated Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva last October in Minneapolis, it might have been him making his way to a fight with Cain Velasquez this weekend at UFC 160. But he's not harboring any ill will towards Silva as the event approaches, and indeed is sending positive vibes his way as Silva prepares to fight Velasquez a second time.
"Honestly, I can say I'm happy for Bigfoot," Browne said in an interview with USA Today. "Right now, I'm back on my path. My last fight, I got back on the path I need to be in order to get those kind of opportunities."
"Since I fought Bigfoot, I've actually become a big fan of his, the way he carries himself and the way he handles himself," Browne continued. "You have to respect the guy, with what he's done in the sport. With that said, I'd still love to compete against him and hopefully one day avenge that loss, if that's in the cards. But he's turned into a fan favorite. He's really proved a lot of people wrong."
"After the loss to Bigfoot, we go back home, but now we're at the top again. We're just about six months behind, that's all."
Browne's got a chance to move himself right back into the top end of the divisional picture this summer, as he'll take on Alistair Overeem on the UFC's debut card on Fox Sports 1 in August.
Penick's Analysis: It's nice to see positive words from a fighter towards someone who has defeated them as soundly as happened in the Silva-Browne fight. He could have been bitter about the loss, especially with the injury he suffered early on in the bout, but instead he's hoping for the best for Silva. He might get a rematch down the line, especially if he gets past Overeem. but regardless of what happens with Silva and Velasquez on Saturday he knows his path back continues with Overeem.
