Following Saturday night's UFC on FX 8 event in Brazil, Vitor Belfort was asked about his use of the controversial testosterone replacement therapy, and his reaction drew wide spread criticism. Belfort reacted to the question by asking if someone in the crowd could "beat up" the reporter who asked it, MMAJunkie.com's John Morgan.
On Tuesday, Belfort took to Twitter to somewhat apologize for the way he responded to the question. Here's his unedited post:
"To all my fans and to all the reporters that was there on the after press conference I would like to ask for forgiveness the way I answer about TRT I RECOGNIZE THAT I ANWSER IN A IMMATURE WAY BUT WAS THE 10 th time that that reporter ask the same question. No excuse!! I made a WORNG call and I am here to ask for forgiveness God bless all you guys love to do what I do and I am keeping moving UP SEEKING GROW AS A MEN OF GOD AND AS A FIGHTER "DONT DOUT ME I WILL PROUVE U WORNG" PEACE"
Penick's Analysis: Amidst a multitude of spelling errors and a little rambling, this was essentially a comment saying "I'm sorry I responded immaturely but he made me!" Saying "but that was the 10th time that the reporter asked the same question" is conveniently ignoring that he also refused to answer the questions which are rightfully being asked about his TRT use. Belfort wants it to be something that can't or shouldn't be asked about, but he's in a dream world if that's the way he thinks. It absolutely should be questioned, and should be questioned vociferously, because the fact that he's been allowed to undergo the treatment on its face seems wrong, and he refuses to talk about why he "needs" it. If it's because of past steroid use, most don't think he should be allowed to use TRT now, and that's why it's something that will continue to be questioned despite any childish outcries from Belfort. That said, he still did say he made the "wrong call" with his response, and perhaps he'll eventually come around to giving the answers most are seeking.
