Chael Sonnen tossed out a challenge towards Wanderlei Silva last month after his loss to Jon Jones at UFC 159, and while he's continued to make comments towards "The Axe Murderer," Silva himself says the UFC hasn't even offered the fight. But while he makes that claim, Sonnen's taking things as him not accepting the fight, and said this week that he's moving past it.
"I'm not looking for it anymore, I don't like to bully guys," Sonnen told Karyn Bryant. "I tried to fight him, he doesn't want to fight. I'm not gonna stick a finger in a guy's chest. If a guy says 'no,' I'm not gonna be a jerk about it."
As it's Sonnen making the comments, that doesn't kill the possibility of the fight still happening, but for now he says he's backing off, and will seek another fight at light heavyweight. Unless he doesn't.
Penick's Analysis: It still doesn't make sense that the UFC wouldn't have offered that fight to Silva already, unless they're holding off until they figure out which event to put it on, but that's the story Silva has stuck with. Sonnen's clearly moving to "he doesn't want to fight me" with these comments, but right now it's still all just talk. Until one of them is booked against someone else, it seems likely that they're still going to eventually fight one another here.
