The UFC has finalized their penalty for Nate Diaz following the tweet he sent out Thursday using the word "fag" in referring to bantamweight Bryan Caraway. The organization initially announced a suspension of Diaz pending an internal investigation on Thursday, and on Friday set their final punishment.
Here's their statement:
UFC lightweight Nate Diaz has received an immediate 90-day suspension and $20,000 fine for violating the UFC’s fighter code of conduct. The language used in his tweet was regrettable, offensive and inconsistent with the values and culture of the organization, and is not tolerated.
The money will be donated to charity.
Penick's Analysis: That sounds about right. Diaz isn't one that would issue an apology on this front, and even if he had it wouldn't have been genuine, because that's how he thinks. But the UFC needed to respond in some way, and here they've announced an actual number for the fine - something they didn't do with Mitrione - and they'll likely donate that to a charity for the LGBT community. It wasn't egregious enough to force a release, but it wasn't acceptable, either, and the UFC made that fairly clear with that level of fine.
