UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson was forced out of a scheduled Title defense against John Moraga last month with an undisclosed injury. Now, more information has come to light about the nature of his injury.
Johnson's coach, Matt Hume, updated Johnson's condition via Friday's new episode of "Inside MMA" on AXS TV.
Per Hume, Johnson suffered a torn labrum in training, an injury which will keep him sidelined for for four months. That's a significant setback for a fighter who was hoping to bounce right back after a successful Title defense in January, where he defeated John Dodson at UFC on Fox 6.
Penick's Analysis: That's an unfortunate injury for Johnson, who was ready to make a quick turnaround against Moraga. A torn labrum is something that can be re-injured fairly easily if not taken care of properly, so hopefully he follows any and all rehab instructions to the letter and doesn't attempt to come back too soon. There's no need to risk further setbacks, and if he's smart about it and lets it heal properly, he can come back strong.
