The finalists in the season 16 Ultimate Fighter welterweight tournament were revealed on Friday night, as Team Nelson's Colton Smith and Team Carwin's Mike Ricci each made their way into the finals with wins on the final pre-taped episode of this season on FX.
Smith faced off against Team Nelson teammate Jon Manley, controlling the grappling in the fight for two and a half rounds. He had to survive Manley's offense in the final two minutes of the fight, but he managed to do just that and earned a unanimous decision.
Ricci's fight was over a lot more quickly than that, as he took out fellow Team Carwin teammate Neil Magny by knockout in the first round. Ricci knocked Magny down early in the round, and after a brief ground battle, Magny tried to get to his feet. As he did, Ricci held control of his body, then released with a vicious short elbow to the jaw that knocked him down. Another short elbow on the ground put him out, and Ricci moved on to the finals in impressive fashion.
The fight will be a part of The Ultimate Fighter Finale card on FX, coming next Saturday night live from Las Vegas.
