Josh Koscheck is expecting to return in early 2013 after an injury took him out of a bout against Jake Ellenberger planned for UFC 151. He gave a few names recently that he'd like to square off against, and on Sunday he tried to move things further towards one bout in particular.
"I'd like to fight before February, but Cesar [Gracie] is calling for me [to] fight [Nick] Diaz in February Super Bowl weekend," Koscheck wrote. "What you guys think? I am down! Don't be scared homie."
The UFC's Super Bowl weekend event is expected for Feb. 2 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Unfortunately for the idea of this fight, Diaz isn't eligible for licensure until his suspension expires on Feb. 4. Unless his suspension is overturned in court in a case that's currently pending, Diaz will not be available for the Super Bowl weekend event.
Penick's Analysis: It wouldn't be the first time Koscheck's used Twitter to try to get himself into a bout. He attempted to set up a fight with B.J. Penn that way, only to have Penn turn him down and take a fight with Rory MacDonald, and though he says it's Cesar Gracie calling for him to fight Diaz, it's not clear when and where that challenge was laid out. Still, it's not a fight that can happen on Super Bowl weekend right now, so until something changes with Diaz's status there's nothing here.
