Anderson Silva's UFC run has been historic, and he's posted numbers that aren't likely to be duplicated anytime soon. On Saturday night at UFC 153, he looks to extend his current winning streak in the Octagon to 16 fights. Standing in front of him is Stephan Bonnar, who comes out of semi-retirement for the biggest fight of his own career.
A lot of the discussion heading into Saturday's event in Brazil has been regarding Bonnar's "Rocky" story with this fight, and how he's got nothing to lose in taking on the greatest fighter to date. Still, Silva has no plans on ending his winning streak anytime soon, and thinks there's a reason he's the prohibitive favorite into Saturday's fight.
"I believe I have more agility, more speed at this weight," Silva said recently (via ESPN UK). "I don't know about the power, but I do believe I am more agile."
"I hope to continue my win streak and I can finish my career undefeated in the UFC."
Penick's Analysis: If there's ever a fighter who could go undefeated in the UFC, it's definitely Silva. He may run up against a fighter who has his number at some point, but it hasn't happened yet. It's not likely to happen on Saturday against Bonnar, despite the fact that Bonnar's never been stopped in the UFC and has a definite size advantage. Silva is still the better fighter in every aspect of the game, and his run in the UFC will more than likely continue this week in his home country.
