Despite a report this afternoon that a lightweight No. 1 contender bout between Anthony Pettis and Donald Cerrone would take place at UFC on Fox 5, that appears not to be the case, as UFC President Dana White has issued a denial of the report.
A vehement denial, in fact.
"So [expletive] far from being the truth," White stated in a comment made to MMAJunkie.com.
Though the fight is still expected to take place, White was clear it's not on the Fox card, and there's no date or location set for it yet. Cerrone has wanted the fight for some time, and after defeating Melvin Guillard at UFC 150 last weekend it became all but a formality. Now the bout just needs a card.
Penick's Analysis: That's disappointing news, because it really would have made sense to have it take place on the Fox card to expose the winner to that audience alongside the division's Champion. A fourth fight will be booked for the Fox card, but it's not going to be this one, unfortunately. Still, this will be a very good fight for whatever card the UFC decides to put it on, and whenever it happens fans will be looking forward to it.
