By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief The Ultimate Fighter season eight featuring coaches Frank Mir and Antonio "Minotauro" Nogueira has been on the low end of ratings for the series. This week continued that trend with a 1.0 rating, with an average audience of 1.3 million viewers.
Viewership grew as the show went on, with the largest quarter hour predictably being during the fight on the show between Dave Kaplan and Phillipe Nover. That final quarter hour drew a 1.2 rating.
The show drew a 1.28 in their bread and butter demographic of males 18-34.
The quarter hour breakdowns were as follows:
Q1- .88
Q2- .97
Q3- .93
Q4- 1.20
Penick's Analysis: Clearly the popularity of the show has waned slightly as we reach the second half stretch of this eighth season, but people still tune in for the fights. It seems there are many less interested in the house shenanigans and more into the fights themselves, which is fine. The fights are why people watch the UFC in the first place, and already knowing next week's fight could cause the rating to be a bit lower next week, at least quarter hour wise, as people may skip the filler and stay for the fight.
