Since entering the Zuffa fold in 2009, bantamweight Takeya Mizugaki has alternated losses and wins, going 4-5 through nine fights in the WEC and UFC. He'll hope to keep that trend going in his next bout, as MMAWeekly.com reports that Mizugaki will face off against Jeff Hougland at UFC 151 on September 1.
Mizugaki has been in mostly exciting fights throughout his time in both organizations, starting with his classic five round war with Miguel Torres. In his five losses, four have been by decision, with only Urijah Faber holding a stoppage win over him. In his last bout, Mizugaki dropped a split decision to Chris Cariaso after knocking out Cole Escovedo last September.
Hougland is also out to bounce back from a loss in his last fight. After picking up a win in his UFC debut last year at UFC 132, a decision over Donny Walker, he dropped a decision to Yves Jabouin last month at UFC on Fuel 3. That loss snapped a nine fight winning streak.
UFC 151 takes place from Las Vegas on September 1, headlined by the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between Jon Jones and Dan Henderson.
Penick's Analysis: I like this fight a lot. Hougland had a solid showing against Jabouin in his last fight, and Mizugaki is always entertaining to watch. It should be a very good bantamweight matchup, and it's a solid addition to this undercard. Mizugaki has had a really hard time getting any momentum going, but these are the types of fights he usually performs well in.
