Considering the string of bad luck the UFC has had with their main events this year, rumblings over the weekend that UFC Middleweight Champion had suffered a knee injury had to be nerve-wracking. However, the Champ himself insists there's nothing to it.
"[People] my knee is doing very well thank you!" Silva posted on Twitter on Monday night. "Stay calm... on July 7 [I] will be doing my [work]."
Silva will face off against Chael Sonnen for the second time in the main event of UFC 148 in Las Vegas, attempting to pick up a quicker win than in their first bout. Sonnen remains the only fighter in the UFC to come close to a victory over Silva, dominating the action for four and half rounds before succumbing to a triangle choke in the final round of the title fight.
Penick's Analysis: Some are already trying to spin the injury rumors as Silva setting up "excuses" in the case that he should lose, with some still not believing that he had a rib injury during the first fight. Regardless, Silva should be the favorite into the rematch on the 7th, and Sonnen's continued attempts to stir the pot serve as hype to the fight and really nothing more. If Silva has any injury issues right now, he's not confirming them or not saying anything about them, but more than likely there's nothing to see here on this one. Especially considering the picture he posted on Twitter accompanying this statement was him throwing a flying knee in training.
