Jake Shields officially makes his move back up to middleweight on August 11, as he'll take on Ed Herman at UFC 150 in Denver, Colo.
UFC President Dana White announced the fight on Twitter on Monday night.
Shields makes the move following his first win in his last three fights, a decision win over Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 144 in Japan.
Herman is riding a three fight winning streak since returning from a near two-year injury layoff. Most recently, he defeated Clifford Starks by submission at UFC 143 in February.
UFC 150 will be headlined by a UFC Lightweight Championship rematch between Ben Henderson and Frankie Edgar.
Penick's Analysis: The middleweight division is booked pretty solid right now, so Herman was the best available name for Shields' middleweight return. It's a really solid matchup, though Shields does have an edge where Herman is most comfortable: the ground game. However, Herman's striking will be superior in this matchup, so whomever is able to make the fight play to their strengths should prove victorious in this one.
