After a terrible performance in a loss against Mark Hunt last October, Ben Rothwell bounced back in a big way on Saturday at UFC 145, knocking out Brendan Schaub in just over a minute.
Schaub was out to redeem himself as well after his second KO loss in the UFC, that one to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira last August. He even began well in this one, rocking Rothwell with a spinning elbow to the temple that led to the finishing sequence.
As he was backed up to the cage, Rothwell was clipped with a few more big strikes from Schaub. However, Schaub overreached on a big overhand right, and Rothwell dropped him with a perfectly placed left hook to the jaw that sent him crashing to the ground. After a couple more strikes on the ground, the fight was stopped, and Schaub wasn't sure where he was.
The unfortunate turn of events led to a second consecutive loss for Schaub, and his third by knockout in the UFC. Rothwell, meanwhile, has now alternated wins and losses in his last six fights dating back to 2008.
