By: Alex Williams, MMATorch Contributor Dana White told TAGG Raido that he is "working on" the eventual take over of the the WEC's 185- and 205-pound weight classes (featuring champions Paulo Filho and Steve Cantwell, respectively) by the UFC.
If Filho can regain the form that brought him prominence in Pride, he will be a top fighter anywhere he goes. But his performances so far in the WEC (wins over Joe Doerksen and Chael Sonnen) have been lackluster, perhaps due to a substance abuse problem for which Filho went to rehab. Filho's September 10 WEC rematch with Sonnen should be a big test for whether Filho can win again impressively (or win at all).
Meanwhile, 205 pounders like Cantwell and Brian Stann are inexperienced enough that they will have to be matched easy when they are first brought into the UFC or they will risk early exits.
DON'T GO YET... WE SUGGEST THESE MMATORCH ARTICLES, TOO!
