By: Alex Williams, MMATorch Contributor The UFC announced yesterday that unbeaten fighters Lyoto Machida and Thiago Silva will battle October 18 at UFC 89, an English event that will air on same-day tape delay on Spike TV.
The card looks stacked. Bisping/Leben should be exciting. While not officially announced, Thiago Alves/Diego Sanchez is rumored, and a fantastic fight on paper with number one contender implications. Sokoudjou is matched tough with power striker Luis Cane, whose only loss came via controversial DQ to James Irvin in a bout Cane was winning. Shane Carwin/Neil Wain is a clash of two undefeated heavyweights who have ended every bout in the first round. Carwin is talked about as a future star of the division. Rounding out the event are solid fights like Akihiro Gono/Dan Hardy and Marcus Davis/Paul Kelly. It should be a real treat.
