The UFC announced yesterday that unbeaten fighters Lyoto Machida and Thiago Silva will battle October 18 at UFC 89, an English event that will air on same-day tape delay on Spike TV.

The card looks stacked. Bisping/Leben should be exciting. While not officially announced, Thiago Alves/Diego Sanchez is rumored, and a fantastic fight on paper with number one contender implications. Sokoudjou is matched tough with power striker Luis Cane, whose only loss came via controversial DQ to James Irvin in a bout Cane was winning. Shane Carwin/Neil Wain is a clash of two undefeated heavyweights who have ended every bout in the first round. Carwin is talked about as a future star of the division. Rounding out the event are solid fights like Akihiro Gono/Dan Hardy and Marcus Davis/Paul Kelly. It should be a real treat.
