UFC NEWS: Hermes Franca vs. Tyson Griffin on tap for UFC 103 in September

Lightweights Hermes Franca and Tyson Griffin have both verbally agreed to face each other at UFC 103 according to a report from MMAJunkie.com.

The bout will take place on the main card of the September 19th event from the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, TX.

Franca was supposed to face Joe Lauzon at Fight Night 17 in February but came up with a torn ACL in training and had to pull out of the bout. He was coming off a win over Marcus Aurelio after dropping two straight losses to Sean Sherk and Frankie Edgar.

Griffin also has losses to Sherk in Edgar, though they are the only losses in his entire career. He's won five of six, dropping a decision to Sherk in their "Fight of the Night" bout last October, and he's coming off a victory at Fight Night 17 himself.

No main event is set for UFC 103, although it's also expected to have a bout between Josh Koscheck and Frank Trigg on the card.

Penick's Analysis: This should be a tremendous lightweight battle between two guys who have almost nothing but exciting fights. They've both faced similar competition throughout their careers with varying degrees of success, but this should be a fairly even and very competitive bout for this Dallas event.
