UFC Fight Night 21 on Wednesday peaked with two million viewers for the main event lightweight bout between Kenny Florian and Takanori Gomi, according to figures released by Spike TV today.
The average audience for the event, which also saw Roy Nelson's :39 second knockout of Stefan Struve and Ross Pearson's "Fight of the Night" winning decision over Dennis Siver, was 1.6 million viewers overall.
The event was the number one rated program in its timeslot in the M18-34 and M18-49 demographics. The event was the lead in to the Ultimate Fighter's eleventh season, which held steady with 1.9 million viewers for that hour long broadcast.
Penick's Analysis: The two million viewers was the same peak for the Fight Night 20 event in January, though that card had a higher average for the event. It's a bit surprising they didn't bring in a bit more considering the final sell from UFC 111 last weekend, but the numbers are still very good for Spike TV, and they bring in the most viewers in the demographics they're trying to get. It also helped the Ultimate Fighter's debut episode to get the crossover viewers that were watching Florian submit Gomi, and hopefully with how good that show was it helps them keep a good number of viewers coming back week in and week out.
