A new report Monday night from Minneapolis news station WCCO states that UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar has been diagnosed with a "severe case" of diverticulitis.
Diverticulitis is a disease where pockets form on the wall of the colon, becoming inflamed and infected. That happens when bacteria get into the pouches, causing the infection.
The disease does not always require surgery, though in Lesnar's case it appears to be of the severe enough variety to need said surgery.
UFC President Dana White also said to USA Today that Lesnar was recovering from a "bacterial infection," which could be this same diagnosis. Said White, "He's in stable condition and should be released soon."
As far as Lesnar's temperament at the moment, White said, "He's never in good spirits and he's not in good spirits now."

Penick's Analysis: We're starting to get a bit more of a clear picture on this whole situation, though it seems Lesnar and his family are trying to keep the diagnosis and severity of the illness more private at the moment, and we're left with more speculation from multiple parties as we await some clear word on what's really going on. Again we should hope for the best and hope that Lesnar is able to make a full recovery from whatever ailment's he's suffering from, and on that same note hopefully it won't be something that negates his ability to come back and fight at the level, or higher than, that he was before this felled him.
