The Ultimate Fighter report
March 31, 2010
By Frank Hyden
The 28 fighters enter the new UFC training facility. It looks like a pretty nice place. Dana White, Tito Ortiz, and Chuck Liddell enter the facility. They line the fighters up and Dana drops the f-bomb about a million times during his speech to them. His speech was basically about telling these guys to give it their all and to not leave anything in the cage, or else they'll regret it. Then the fights start.
FIGHT 1- Jamie Yager vs. Ben Stark- Jamie hits a highkick, then unleashes a barrage of kicks that floor Stark. Ben is knocked out. Wow, Jamie didn't even throw a damn punch. I like his afro hair, too, it's unique
WINNER- Jamie Yager by KO
FIGHT 2- Jordan Smith vs. Brad Tavares- They trade early, Brad clinches. Brad hits a big knee to Jordan's chin, then finishes him off with a smooth right.
WINNER- Brad Tavares by KO
FIGHT 3- Cleburn Walker vs. Kris McCray- McCray hits an early throw, which pops Cleburn's shoulder out of socket. Cleburn is forced to submit. That sucks, that's a damn shame.
WINNER- Kris McCray by Injury Stoppage
FIGHT 4- Norman Paraisy vs. James Hammortree- Norman gets the takedown early. James works his way on top, then into mount. James is just ground-and-pounding Norman into a pulp. The 1st round ends. Norman quits in between rounds. Nobody watching is happy. Norman had said that he was going to prove that French people aren't soft. I know not all French people are soft, but Norman sure as hell is. Way to want it. Chuck makes a few jokes about that being as bad as tapping out to strikes, which is what Tito did. The headgames begin.
WINNER- James Hammortree by Submission
FIGHT 5- Nick Ring vs. Woody Weatherby- They only show some quick highlights. Weatherby is forced to tap.
WINNER- Nick Ring by Submission
FIGHT 6- Kyle Noke vs. Warren Thompson- Again, only highlights are shown here. Warren gets a huge cut on his head, it's a real gusher that flows wide open. Kyle gets the decision
WINNER- Kyle Noke by Decision
FIGHT 7- Court McGee vs. Seth Baczynski- Highlights are shown. The fight goes 3 rounds. There was some decent action, with some big throws and nice punches being thrown. Court gets the decision
WINNER- Court McGee by Decision
FIGHT 8- Victor O'Donnell vs. Chris Camozzi- O'Donnell gets a slam, and Camozzi hits a big knee. These guys are trading like warriors. In the 2nd round, they keep on trading and slugging it out with huge punches. O'Donnell gets another takedown. They go to the 3rd round, and these guys keep right on slugging it out. These guys are nuts. O'Donnell gets a slam, Camozzi gets a throw, and the round ends. Chris gets the decision. I don't know if I agree with that, but I didn't see the whole fight. From what I saw, though, I think O'Donnell won the fight. Both guys deserve to be in the house, to be honest.
WINNER- Chis Camozzi by Decision
FIGHT 9- Kyacey Oscola vs. Brent Cooper- Uscola has a pretty terrible 18-15 record, but he says that he took a lot of fights that he shouldn't have. These guys are also trading, Uscola gets the knockout with a sweet right hook.
WINNER- Kyacey Oscola by KO
FIGHT 10- Joe Henle vs. Costantinos Philipou- Henle's the guy with the wild beard and hair. They show highlights of Henle grabbing an armbar for the win. He wants to be announced as Leonidas. His hair's too long for that, but right on.
WINNER- Joe Henle by Submission
FIGHT 11- Rich Attonito vs. Lyle Steffens- Again, just highlights. This fight looked boring anyway. Rich wins the decision
WINNER- Rich Attonito by Decision
FIGHT 12- Josh Bryant vs. Greg Rebello- More highlights, another boring looking fight. Josh gets the decision.
WINNER- Josh Bryant by Decision
FIGHT 13- Jacen Flynn vs. Charles Blanchard- The doctor has to stop this fight after Jacen gets too bad of a cut. Charles looks to be a really good wrestler.
WINNER- Charles Blanchard by Doctor Stoppage
FIGHT 14- Charley Lynch vs. Clayton McKinney- Clayton gets a takedown, but isn't able to do much. They stand and separate. Clayton clinches, and works his way to a throw. They start trading, and Clayton is throwing bombs. Clayton is rocking Charley with power shots, but Charley just takes them. Charley's nose is horribly, horribly broken. It's in different places on his face. That thing is grotesque. Charley's still fighting, though. The referee just needs to step in and stop this. Clayton drops Charley with another big shot, and the ref stops it. Upon further inspection, Charley's nose looks even worse. That's the worst broken nose I've ever seen. Not even Rich Franklin's broken nose courtesy of Anderson Silva's knee was this bad. A large part of Charley's nose is sunken in. That's just nasty.
Well, this first episode was plenty exciting. We'll see if future episodes are this good. So far, this season is off to a great start, I hope it keeps up. Any comments or suggestions can be e-mailed to me at hydenfrank@gmail.com

"There's still a large contingent of people, that they just want to see these guys almost die, or the other guy almost die and come back, and sometimes fights are like that. Certainly they are. But sometimes you get technical masterpieces too, and to hate a beautiful, technical fight - you're not really a fight fan...
Diaz has a granite chin, possesses perhaps the best recovery in the sport, his pace and conditioning are second to none and he sets records with the volume of his punches almost every time he steps into the cage. Nick Diaz is simply designed to fight the way he fights, and not many other fighters are...
"There was a lot of poison going on around there and I'm really disappointed because we had a good thing going. It was a good thing and I think people's egos got in the way. Well, not people just Javier, his ego got in the way, and too many cameras in the gym and him trying to build himself up and his brand, his AKA brand...
