-Michael Schiavello opens up the show with Miesha Tate and Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal joining him on commentary tonight. There's a little stage setting, then straight to our first fight of the night.

FIGHT ONE: MUNAH HOLLAND VS. NINA ANSAROFF (127 LB. CATCHWEIGHT)

ROUND ONE: Ansaroff landed a few inside leg kicks early. Holland stalked as the aggressor. Ansaroff pawed out some jabs and landed more inside leg kicks as she tried to keep Holland off her. Ansaroff threw a spinning kick, but Holland closed the distance with a few strikes and clinched. Holland landed some hard hammerfists to the thighs as she tried to work for a takedown. Ansaroff did a solid job defending the takedown. Ansaroff landed some punches in the clinch. Holland landed to the other thigh. Ansaroff finally got separation with a short combination. She landed a nice straight kick to the body. Ansaroff landed a solid combination as Holland came in. Ansaroff then shot in and scored a nice trip into side control. Ansaroff moved her away from the cage and landed a couple of strikes. Holland got half guard, but Ansaroff scored with several strikes. Holland kicked her off and got to her feet at the bell.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Ansaroff. Got the takedown, had a lot of effective strikes. Solid opening.

ROUND TWO: Holland stuffed an early takedown and landed a couple of strikes. Ansaroff came back with a shot and finished the takedown. Holland got Ansaroff back into guard. Ansaroff backed out and let her stand. Ansaroff connected with a right. Holland closed the distance, but Ansaroff connected on a few. Holland got a clinch and landed a knee to the body. Holland landed a left. She stuffed a takedown attempt. Ansaroff connected on a solid spinning kick to the body. Ansaroff then dropped Holland with a combination. She dropped into the guard and landed a big flurry and John McCarthy had to stop it. Could have probably stopped it about five or six punches earlier. Good performance from Ansaroff.

WINNER: Ansaroff via TKO at 3:54 of the second round

STAR RATING: (**) Nice performance from Ansaroff to kick things off. Really excellent finishing sequence as well.

-Wasting no time tonight getting to the next fight, that's always a plus!

FIGHT TWO: SARAH D'ALELIO VS. TONYA EVINGER (BANTAMWEIGHT)

ROUND ONE: Both came to the center and each threw a few strikes in a good opening exchange. Evinger landed a nice jab from the outside and circled away. Nice counter right from Evinger landed as D'Alelio threw a kick. D'Alelio backed her up with a couple of strikes. D'Alelio missed a few punches but landed a leg kick. Evinger went high with a kick. D'Alelio caught another one and scored a takedown into side control. D'Alelio worked patiently from the top, but Evinger got to half guard. D'Alelio tried to look for a kimura on the left arm. She stood while trying to get the arm loose but had to let the hold go. She threw some kicks to the legs as Evinger looked for an opening to get back up. Evinger tripped D'Alelio up and turned it into a takedown attempt. D'Alelio almost avoided it. She worked to a knee and Evinger tried to stay on the single leg. She got her to the cage but D'Alelio got out and to her feet. D'Alelio shot in but got stuffed close to the end of the round.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 D'Alelio. Evinger had some success that round, but spent a lot of time on her back and the edge went to D'Alelio there.

ROUND TWO: Evinger landed a punch and D'Alelio connected on a kick early. D'Alelio closed the distance and clinched, but Evinger pulled off a nice throw and got on top. She landed a couple of knees to the body as she tried pass. D'Alelio tried to work from her back, but Evinger moved to better control in the half guard. She landed some elbows to the legs and some punches. She stood up and came back to avoid the up kicks. D'Alelio got full guard and tried to attack from the bottom again. Evinger landed some strikes as she looked to stay busy from the top. D'Alelio kicked her off and finally got to her feet. She landed a leg kick as they re-engaged. Evinger landed a hard strike and D'Alelio stumbled. Evinger grabbed a single leg and D'Alelio tried to stop it at the cage. Evinger completed the takedown, but D'Alelio got right back to her feet. Evinger landed an uppercut as they separated. D'Alelio landed some kicks as Evinger came forward. Evinger landed a head kick but missed a straight right. Evinger landed a counter right and stuffed a takedown at the bell.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Evinger. Evinger spent the time on top this round and landed some big strikes late as well.

ROUND THREE: D'Alelio landed a right early. Evinger hurt her with a combination and pressed her back. She landed a couple more strikes, then shot in and scored a takedown. D'Alelio tried to sneak in a guillotine, but it wasn't tight. Evinger tried to pass to get her head out and she popped it out. D'Alelio tried to lock on a triangle, but Evinger rolled out of it. D'Alelio tried to turn it to an armbar. Evinger stepped on her face to try to get her arm free. D'Alelio tried hold onto the arm but lost the position. Evinger was put into defense mode again, but got out. Evinger playing with fire when she had a clear edge on the feet. She got back into D'Alelio's full guard and landed a few strikes. She got out of another armbar attempt and landed some strikes. Evinger worked from an almost sprawl and landed more strikes. D'Alelio gave up her back and Evinger tried to get her hooks in. She couldn't as the round ended.

Penick' Scorecard: 10-9 Evinger. She gave D'Alelio too many chances to try to steal the round from her back. She had her hurt on the feet, and could have kept the pressure on there, but for whatever reason went to the takedown there and almost got caught a couple of times.

WINNER: Evinger via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

STAR RATING: (*+) Not a great fight. Nothing horrible in there, but it was sloppy, and Evinger had a really questionable approach in the third round to bring the fight on the ground after she had D'Alelio hurt.

-There's a short break and the pay-per-view broadcast technically begins at the top of the hour. These first two fights were a part of an hour long preliminary card.

After some opening video packages for the pay-per-view card, we're heading to the opening main card fight ten minutes in.

FIGHT THREE: VANESSA PORTO VS. ZOILA FRAUSTO GURGEL (FLYWEIGHT)

ROUND ONE: Porto took the center and pressed in early. Very tentative opening minute, with a leg kick from Gurgel as the only offense 50 seconds in. Porto connected on an outside leg kick. Porto landed an inside leg kick and Gurgel landed a three strike counter. She tried to grab a clinch in close but Porto fought out of it. Porto landed a right. The action slowed again. Porto closed the distance and got in a couple of rights while eating a knee in the clinch. Gurgel missed an elbow strike. Porto got in a right at the cage and Gurgel shoved her off to the center. Porto landed some big kicks, then landed a few strikes behind it. She clinched and ate a couple of strikes, but scored a takedown. Gurgel scrambled and got to her feet but ate a few strikes on the way up. She landed a kick to the face at the bell.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Porto. She landed more strikes and scored a takedown that round.

ROUND TWO: Gurgel landed some strikes early and was more aggressive. Porto got her to the ground but Gurgel scrambled and tried to take her back. She went for an arm but lost position. As she popped up she ate several strikes but fired back. Porto landed another flurry started by a body kick. Porto landed a couple of leg kicks. Gurgel got in a left. Porto popped in with another combination. Gurgel went high with a kick that was blocked. Gurgel landed a hard leg kick. Porto got in a kick with a big right hand behind it. Gurgel landed a right. Porto came back and landed another combination. Porto connected on another right. Porto stuffed a trip attempt and barely missed an elbow on the release. Gurgel landed a hard outside leg kick. Porto closed the distance and landed another combination. She landed a right as Gurgel circled away. Porto landed several more strikes before the round ended.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Porto. She's striking with a lot more volume and landed more overall.

ROUND THREE:Gurgel threw some strikes from the outside in the opening minute. Porto rushed in and scored with a few strikes before taking her down. She passed to half guard and tried to stay active. Porto landed a knee to the body and passed to side control. She popped out and landed a big right to secure side control. She pulled Gurgel away from the cage and landed a knee to the back. Gurgel got some space and popped to her feet, eating a right on the way up. Porto threw a straight kick to the body. Gurgel got in with a high kick. She landed a solid right as she stepped in. Gurgel landed a short flurry. Porto fired back. They both missed strikes in close. Gurgel landed a head kick that was partially blocked. Porto landed a nice right. Gurgel got in with a right. Porto blocked a couple of strikes. The fight came to a close in a stand off and the two embraced in a sign of respect.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Porto. Gurgel's offense was too little too late there in that round.

WINNER: Porto via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

STAR RATING: (**-) Solid enough fight. Fairly average. Porto had a good performance and just beat Gurgel more often than she got beat.

FIGHT FOUR: JULIA BUDD VS. CHARMAINE TWEET (FEATHERWEIGHT)

ROUND ONE: Both fighters missed some early strikes in close as Budd closed the distance. She scored a quick takedown nd moved her away from the cage. Budd landed a couple of knees to the body from side control. She tried to pass to mount but Tweet defended. She moved to north-south, then side control on the other side, staying busy with punches and elbows. She attacked an arm but Tweet defended. Budd landed a few elbows. Tweet spun around and got full guard. Budd picked her up and pressed her to the cage. She postured up and landed a strike. Then she stood and popped in with a right. Tweet again tried to kick her off, but Budd stayed on top, then passed to side control. She landed some more strikes from side control as the round ended.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Budd. Not enough damage or offense overall for a 10-8, but it was a one-sided round.

ROUND TWO: They traded kicks early. Tweet landed a strike, but Budd closed the distance and scored the takedown. She quickly passed and got to north-south. She landed an elbow to the stomach, then passed to side control. She got in some elbows to the head and body. Tweet got her turned around and landed a kick to the chest. Budd stood and landed a leg kick as she looked to jump back in. Tweet threw some upkicks, but Budd got back into guard. Tweet reversed, but Budd got right back on top. Tweet went for a choke, but Budd got back out. She passed again to side control, landing some knees to the body. Tweet tried to fire some of her own from her back. Tweet spun her around and threw several kicks to try backing Budd up. Budd came right back and landed two hard right hand strikes. She ended the round on top.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Budd. Tweet can't do much from her back, but Budd's content with positional control more than anything.

ROUND THREE: Tweet tossed out some awkward looking front kicks to start the round. Budd shot in and scored yet another takedown. Tweet tried to close her guard and land strikes from her back. Budd stayed busy in the guard, then stepped out and looked to drop back in. Tweet threw some kicks from her back, even got in a punch to the face, but Budd popped back on top in the guard. Tweet threw some strikes from her back. Budd passed to half guard. She continued working offensively. Tweet kicked her off again and the fight ended with Budd standing above her.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Budd. One-sided work from top position again, Tweet just couldn't get off her back.

WINNER: (*) Not entirely a "lay and pray" performance, but Budd certainly wasn't concerned with doing much more than control the position on the ground. It was effective, just didn't make it the most watchable through 15 minutes.


FIGHT FIVE: KATJA KANKAANPAA VS. JOANNE CALDERWOOD (FLYWEIGHT)

ROUND ONE: It's Finland vs. Scotland in this one. Kankaanpaa circled on the outside, but neither really engaged much in the opening minute and a half. Calderwood landed a nice outside leg kick, but both were very tentative to do much. Calderwood landed a left. She popped Kankaanpaa with the jab. Kankaanpaa finally got in with a couple of strikes as Calderwood had her hand down. Kankaanpaa connected again with a couple of strikes. She shot in for a takedown but Calderwood stuffed it. She landed a few strikes but Kankaanpaa went back to the takedown. She took her back standing and tried to drag her down, but Calderwood countered and wound up on top. She tried to trap an arm and landed a strike. Kankaanpaa tried to attack for a leg, but Calderwood defended and ended the round on top.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Calderwood. Not a lot of offense, so the top position swung things in her favor.

ROUND TWO: Kankaanpaa took the center and tried to engage early. Calderwood caught a kick and landed a strike. She avoided a rush. Calderwood landed a solid right. Kankaanpaa landed a nice counter-right and shot in. Calderwood sprawled well. Calderwood landed some strikes and got loose. Kankaanpaa landed a couple of kicks. She landed a jab. Calderwood landed a hard left. She connected on a right. Kankaanpaa got in the leg kick again. Kankaanpaa tripped her up with a single leg and took the back, but Calderwood stood. Calderwood tried to turn around, but got thrown down. Kankaanpaa took her back and got a hook in. She turned it around and went for an arm triangle while in half guard. Kankaanpaa tried to tighten the hold and move out of half guard, but Calderwood locked it down. Kankaanpaa gave up the hold and landed some strikes from the top.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Kankaanpaa. She evened things up with some nice late ground work and a little more activity on the feet.

ROUND THREE: Kankaanpaa lost her balance on a takedown attempt and wound up on her back, but Calderwood let her up. Calderwood landed a couple of strikes. Kankaanpaa landed a right. Calderwood landed a hard kick to the shoulder that snuck to the cage. Kankaanpaa clinched and landed a few strikes, but Calderwood turned her around at the cage. Calderwood landed a few strikes. They separated. Calderwood beat Kankaanpaa to the punch in a couple of exchanges. Calderwood landed a nice counter right as Kankaanpaa moved in. Calderwood went high on the kick again and landed. Kankaanpaa shot in and then took Calderwood's back standing. Kankaanpaa landed some knees to the thigh as Calderwood tried to defend. Calderwood landed a couple of strikes. Kankaanpaa turned to a single leg attempt, but Calderwood turned her around. Calderwood landed a hard body kick. Kankaanpaa got in with a couple of strikes. They clinched and traded knees. Calderwood got in some strikes. Kankaanpaa got in a knee. Calderwood scored a takedown at the bell.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Calderwood. She upped the offense that round, landed more strikes overall and avoided the ground. Close round, though.

WINNER: Calderwood via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

STAR RATING: (*+) Fairly dull fight. Not outright awful, but it wasn't all that good, either.


FIGHT SIX: FELICE HERRIG VS. TECIA TORRES (STRAWWEIGHT)

ROUND ONE: Torres landed a hard leg kick early and Herrig shot in. Torres stuffed it and turned her around. Torres landed a couple of knees. Herrig tried to sneak around to the back but Torres blocked it and they continued the clinch battle. Torres broke away with two big strikes. Torres worked from the outside with kicks. Herrig shot in and had a takedown but Torres grabbed the cage. No warning from the ref. Torres turned it around and it was another clinch battle. Torres landed a big flurry of strikes. She looked to have Herrig hurt, but Herrig clinched. She ate a knee and the clinch battle began again. Torres landed another hard series of strikes as she broke away from the clinch. Nice flurries from Torres in this round. Torres landed a hard counter right again. Torres again landed a short flurry. Herrig tried to pop in with a strike. Torres quickly landed a kick and a punch and circled away from the counter. Torres with another big combo. She landed a hard side kick. She landed a flurry and Herrig rushed her to the ground but Torres landed a few strikes before the bell.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Torres. Much more output offensively, and Herrig's taking some big shots so far.

ROUND TWO: Herrig took the center again. She landed a couple of body kicks but ate punches as she threw them. Herrig got in a couple of body punches. Torres threw a furious barrage but they weren't finding a home. Torres landed a leg kick on the outside. Herrig missed a strike. Torres landed a straight kick to the thigh. Torres landed a couple more strikes, then a side kick to the chest. Torres landed two hard strikes and got cracked by a right herself. Torres missed a spinning wheel kick but engaged with a couple of strikes after. She landed another two punch combination. Torres connected on a few more strikes. Torres landed the side kick to the lead leg a few more times. She landed another flurry. Herrig's not finding any room for success in this fight. Torres landed another combination. Herrig landed a right. Another side kick connected from Torres. Herrig landed a right, but she got tagged by about six more in return. Torres with another few strikes before the bell.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Torres. For every strike Herrig gets in, Torres is landing four or five right now.

ROUND THREE: Herrig came forward, but again it was Torres with a flurry of kicks and punches. Torres landed a side kick. Herrig tried to rush her to the cage but ate several strikes and Torres got to the side. Torres landed a nice right and circled out. She landed a hard leg kick. Torres stepped in with a leg kick and threw three punches behind it. Torres landed an axe kick and got in a few punches behind. She got in a side kick to the body. Herrig shot in and looked for the takedown but got stuffed. Torres turned her around briefly and they jockeyed for position. Herrig tried to stay on the clinch, but Torres continued to defend well. They continued battling in the clinch as Torres' corner screamed for her to get out of there. Didn't need to, as she scored her own takedown from a body lock into half guard. She postured up and landed some big strikes. Herrig pulled off a really nice sweep though and got into half guard herself. She ended the round on top, but too little, too late.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Torres. She's just an absolute fireball. "Tiny Tornado" is a perfect nickname.

WINNER: Torres via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

STAR RATING: (**+) That was a lot of fun. Torres goes berserk with her striking attacks, and that's just highly enjoyable to watch.

-Champ Carla Esparza, who was supposed to fight tonight, came in the cage afterward and said she wanted to fight Torres.

FIGHT SEVEN: LAUREN MURPHY VS. MIRIAM NAKAMOTO (BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP)

ROUND ONE: Tentative start in the opening 30 seconds. Nakamoto the much bigger fighter of the two. She landed a hard jab as Murphy popped in. Murphy couldn't get in range. Nakamoto landed a hard jab that sent Murphy back. She landed a hard left and avoided Murphy's counter. Murphy landed a left. Nakamoto got in a hard leg kick. They traded knees. Nakamoto didn't like that one of them went low. Nakamoto landed a hard left. She got in the leg kick again. Short combo from Nakamoto ended in a leg kick. Nakamoto landed a hard right. She grazed Murphy with another. They traded jabs. They clinched and Murphy pressed her to the cage. Nakamoto landed a knee before getting pressed back. Nakamoto then pulled off a fantastic trip. Murphy scrambled right back to her feet but ate a big elbow from Nakamoto. Nakamoto landed a straight kick. She connected with a few more strikes before the bell.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Nakamoto. She's completely more comfortable than Murphy in this fight right now. Impressive work from Nakamoto that round.

ROUND TWO: Nakamoto landed a straight kick to the leg. Murphy popped in with a left. Nakamoto landed a hard left. Murphy landed a right. Nakamoto got in with the straight kick to the body. Nakamoto landed a short combo. She popped Murphy's head back with a jab. Nakamoto landed a hard left. Murphy caught a kick and put Nakamoto on her back, but Nakamoto countered as she came in and threw her over to pop back up. Nakamoto landed some hard leg kicks. She barely missed an uppercut. Nakamoto landed a hard step in knee and an elbow as Murphy grabbed a body lock and pressed her to the cage. Murphy landed a knee to the groin and the action was stalled. As they restarted, Nakamoto continued on with kicks to the lead leg. Nakamoto landed a hard counter-right. Murphy shot in and got stuffed quickly. Nakamoto landed a step in elbow. Nakamoto landed another left. Murphy landed a hard left. Nakamoto got in a body strike. Nakamoto landed a few more strikes but ate a couple near the end that caused her nose to bleed.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Nakamoto. She's firmly in control, but getting her nose busted open there could give Murphy a little more confidence.

ROUND THREE: Murphy landed some early strikes and the nose was bleeding. Nakamoto went back to the leg kicks, then got some shot in herself. They clinched and Murphy got in a couple strikes, but Nakamoto landed a hard knee to the face. Murphy battled with her in the clinch. Nakamoto was bleeding badly. Murphy got cut open by her right eye as well. They continued battling in the clinch. Murphy landed a knee to the body. The clinch battle was a bit stalemated. Murphy landed some more knees to the legs. Surprised they haven't been broken up yet, to be honest. Murphy finally turned her around and scored the takedown against the cage. She postured up with a couple of strikes. Murphy landed several more as Nakamoto tried to shoot her legs up for damage from the bottom. Nakamoto gave up her back, but worked to her feet. Murphy pulled her back down into side control. She trapped the arm but Nakamoto used the cage to get out. Murphy took her back as the round ended.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Murphy. Now things are getting interesting. Nakamoto hurt her right knee as she got taken down, and Murphy's coming on strong.

ROUND FOUR: Nakamoto came out and they were standing off, and Nakamoto's knee just collapsed. Murphy's going to win the title on an injury, which is unfortunate, but she was picking up steam.

WINNER: Murphy via TKO (injury) at :23 of the fourth round

STAR RATING: (**+) It was a really good fight until the unfortunate finish. Nakamoto was doing a ton on the feet in the first two rounds, but Murphy turned things around a couple minutes into the third. She may have taken over entirely regardless there, but the injury didn't allow that fight to play out as it might have otherwise.

MAIN EVENT FIGHT EIGHT: BARB HONCHAK VS. LESLIE SMITH (FLYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP)

ROUND ONE: Smith came straight ahead and threw strikes. Honchak threw a few jabs to back her off. Honchak clinched after taking a few more strikes but Smith held her off. Honchak closed the distance again and clinched. Smith landed a knee and then another. She got loose and landed a few strikes to break free. Honchak landed a left after an uppercut. He landed a short left hook. Smith landed a hard right. Smith landed a few strikes but Honchak fired back. Honchak popped in with a couple of strikes. Honchak shot in and clinched. They traded knees. Smith turned her around. She landed a left as they separated. Honchak timed a shot nicely and took Smith down. Smith rolled to her knees and Honchak stayed on her from the side. She landed a couple of strikes, then took her back and locked on a body triangle. Honchak landed some strikes and went for a choke. Smith defended well, but almost got mounted before the bell.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Honchak. She was more active on the feet and did some nice work on the ground once she got it there.

ROUND TWO: Smith landed a jab, but ate three punches in return. Honchak landed a nice short combo. Smith connected on a two punch combo. Honchak fired back. Honchak again landed first. Smith landed a leg kick. Honchak landed a hard combination. Honchak dropped Smith with a straight kick and landed a few strikes as Smith stood back up. She clinched and landed some strikes in close. She separated with a nice combination. Honchak then shot in and scored a quick takedown. She nearly had mount but Smith escaped to half guard. Honchak passed to side control. Smith escaped off the cage and got to her feet. Honchak lnaded a hard knee to the body. They traded strikes in close. Honchak dropped for a single leg but got stuffed. They traded knees and a few more punches before separating. Both missed in a flurry. Honchak connected on a few strikes. Honchak went inside with a leg kick, landing several strikes in combination behind it. Another nice combo landed from Honchak. They each got in some dirty boxing in the center. Honchak pressed her back with some strikes. Smith tried to fire back, but Honchak was getting the better of the exchanges. Smith connected on a couple of strikes. They clinched and Smith got in a knee. They butted heads near the end of the round.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Honchak. She's out-striking Smith entirely thus far.

ROUND THREE: Honchak went back on the attack, but Smith continued moving forward. Smith landed several nice strikes, but Honchak fired back. Smith landed a hard left, then a kick to the body, and nice right behind it. They clinched and traded strikes. Smith came right back ahead. Smith connected on another combo. Honchak got in with a hard right. Smith with a solid combo. Honchak came right back with a few strikes. Honchak landed a hard left. Smith got in with a head kick that Honchak ate, but she got it and clinched. She got in a knee but Smith separated with an elbow. She came forward and they exchanged strikes. Honchak landed a kick but it was caught. Smith with a few strikes. More furious exchanges as both were connecting. Honchak clinched again and they jockeyed for position. Smith landed a couple of knees and broke free, walking forward again. Strikes traded again. Smith landed a couple. Smith landed a few, Honchak fired back. The pace of this round has been crazy. Smith jumped in with a right and got in a body kick. Honchak shot in and scored a takedown, but Smith pulled off an omoplata to sweep. Really nice move to get in Honchak's guard. She postured up with an elbow as the round ended.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Smith. She got one back, and picked up her pace offensively. Honchak is right there with her, but Smith did a little more that round.

ROUND FOUR: Smith came ahead but Honchak landed several kicks to hear lead leg. Smith landed a nice flurry of strikes. Honchak landed a hard left. Honchak popped in with a short combination. Honchak landed a leg kick and grabbed a clinch briefly. She shot in and scored a takedown. Well timed there. Smith tried to reverse but Honchak nearly mounted her. Honchak landed some strikes from the top. Smith got to her knees, but Honchak stayed on her with strikes. Smith escaped but ate a knee and Honchak stayed on the clinch. Smith held off the takedown attempt this time and Honchak backed off. Honchak landed a front kick to the body. Smith landed a jab. Smith landed a hard kick to the lead leg. Honchak tried for another takedown but gave it up. Honchak landed a right. Smith missed several strikes. Smith landed a combination but ate a hard counter right. Honchak got in a couple of knees then a front kick to the body. They traded at the end of the round.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Honchak. She bounced back with another solid round. Both are getting a little tired from the furious pace of this fight, but they're still keeping up a lot of energy thus far. Smith has to stop this to win at this stage.

ROUND FIVE:Smith moved in again, but it was Honchak with leg kicks early. She landed a few strikes in combination. Smith fired back at her with several. They traded punches and Honchak missed a spinning back elbow. Honchak with a couple more leg kicks. She shot in but Smith stuffed it. Smith needs to pick it up here if she hopes to finish. Smith landed a few. Honchak fired right back. More kicks from Honchak to the leg and body. Smith landed a step in knee. Smith popped in with a few. Another step in knee, but Honchak timed it and scored an easy takedown. Smith pulled off a nice butterfly sweep and got to her feet. Smith landed a couple but Honchak clinched and pressed her back. They traded strikes in the center. Smith landed a nice right. She tried to walk Honchak down. Honchak was cut open from an elbow. She fired back with a hard right. They traded strikes with both connecting hard. Smith landed an elbow. Smith landed a big combination that hurt Honchak. Honchak clinched in response. Smith broke out and moved in. Honchak landed a hard jab. Honchak scored another takedown. Smith tried to grab for a kimura. Honchak got the arm loose and passed to half. Smith tried to work to her feet as she ate a couple of strikes and managed to as the round ended.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Honchak. Could have been Smith's round with more damage done on the feet, but she got taken down twice as well and took a lot of punishment herself. Really good title fight, but I think Honchak should have it clearly here.

WINNER: Honchak via unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-46)

STAR RATING: (***+) Really good five round fight. Not an all-time classic, but a really good back and forth fight. Smith stayed in there and fought her heart out to the end despite getting beat to the punch more often than not. Honchak had a fantastic all-around performance to hold on to her title.
