The cap off to another excellent WEC event saw the crowning of an Interim Lightweight Champion in what many are pegging as an "instant classic" and one of best fights of the year.
Benson Henderson edged out a unanimous decision victory on Donald Cerrone in the night's main event, taking the fight 48-47 on all three judges scorecards.
With Henderson clearly taking the second and third round and Cerrone taking the fourth and fifth, the decision came down to the first round of the night, which also happened to be the closest of the fight.
In the opening minutes Cerrone had locked in an attempted guillotine choke and looked to have it in tight, and when Henderson made his escape Cerrone put him into an attempted triangle choke. However, once Henderson escaped that hold he held top position and landed punches while standing postured up in Cerrone's guard for the rest of the round.
While some feel the submission attempts from Cerrone in the first round should have given him that round and thus the fight, the "Cowboy" isn't one of them.
