The World Series of Fighting must believe that fans want to see a Welterweight Title bout between Rousimar Palhares and Jake Shields over a Ronda Rousey fight on pay-per-view, as they'll be going head to head with UFC 190 on August 1.
According to a report from MMAJunkie.com, that Palhares-Shields title fight will headline WSOF 22 on Aug. 1 from the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Shields has scored two straight submission wins since entering the WSOF last year, finishing both Ryan Ford and Brian Foster in the first round. He'll take on a fellow UFC vet in Palhares, who has also submitted two straight opponents in the first round under the WSOF banner.
The WSOF 22 event will air live on NBCSN, opposite UFC 190 from Brazil, which is headlined by Rousey's bout with Bethe Correia.
Penick's Analysis: The fight itself has been expected for a while, but putting it on head to head with Rousey's next fight doesn't seem like a great idea. The pay-per-view event may be in Brazil, but Rousey's established herself as a legitimate pay-per-view draw regardless of the opponent, and going up against that event isn't the greatest idea. The fight itself should be significantly intriguing, but it's not going to get many more interested than a Rousey fight.
