"I don't just think I'm the best lightweight in the world. I know for a fact that I am, and I will prove it... I'm the most aggressive fighter at lightweight in the world. I will never take a step backwards... I have no mercy in there. If I'm there, I'm there to put my life on the line, and I'm there to go to work."
-WSOF Lightweight Champ Justin Gaethje talks to MMAJunkie.com about his place in this division into his headlining bout with Luis Palomino Saturday night at WSOF 19.
Penick's Analysis: Gaethje has already shown himself to be a very good fighter. He's undefeated at 13-0, and he's demolished everyone put in front of him to date. Unfortunately for him, no one outside of his friends, family, and camp will hold him as the best in the world right now. He's in a position many fighters have found themselves in over the past several years, sitting outside of the UFC and not fighting the same level of competition as his contemporaries there. He may very well be every bit as good as some of those top guys in the UFC, but until he enters that Octagon and proves it against those fighters, he's just not going to hold that top spot.
