Eddie Alvarez and Hector Lombard closed out Bellator's first season last night as the final Champion's of the organization's inaugural tournaments. For winning the two each took home $100,000 to bring their Bellator earnings to $175,000 for the three fights they competed in, the same for all Champions.
Alvarez, the lightweight tournament favorite from the beginning, finished off challenger Toby Imada quickly in the second round after a back and forth affair in the first. Dropping Imada with a right immediately after the bell, Alvarez started raining down shots which forced Imada to turn to avoid damage, giving up his back in the process and allowing Alvarez to lock in the choke.
In the middleweight tournament finals, Hector Lombard was able to avoid takedown attempts from opponent Jared Hess while beating him up in the striking game. He opened up a gash over the right eye of Hess that needed to be checked multiple times in the third before being too much in the fourth. The doctor's stopped the bout and Lombard took home the prize.
The event airs tonight via tape delay on ESPN Deportes and with an English broadcast on Wednesday on Bellator.com.
