The UFC had discussions with Gina Carano last year to try to bring the former "Face of Women's MMA" into the Octagon, but they ultimately didn't come to a deal, and Carano is continuing her career in Hollywood in 2015.
Her latest role will be fairly high profile, as she's joined the cast of Ryan Reynolds' "Deadpool" film, playing Marvel character "Angel Dust."
Carano joins T.J. Miller and Ed Skrein in the cast, according to a report from TheWrap.com.
The former EliteXC and Strikeforce star, who also gained significant exposure as part of the rebooted American Gladiators in the mid-aughts, has been featured in several action films thus far in her Hollywood career. The 32-year-old is currently filming the remake of "Kickboxer," which stars Jean-Claude Van Damm and also features Georges St-Pierre and former WWE star Dave Bautista.
"Deadpool" is slated to hit theaters on Feb. 12, 2016.
Penick's Analysis: Deadpool is a bit of a passion project for Reynolds, who is hoping to bring the character's fourth-wall breaking attitude and humor to the screen in an appropriately violent R-rated film. Carano's a good fit for the character here, and her continued success in film is keeping her busy enough that an MMA return just remains unlikely.
