...OH, ONE MORE THING - PLEASE BOOKMARK US & VISIT DAILY!
By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief The attendance numbers and live gate figures announced by WEC co-founder Reed Harris at the post fight press conference for last night's WEC 41 event were record breaking according to a report from MMAJunkie.com.
The event reportedly brought in 13,027 fans to the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California, which translated to $818,415 in ticket sales for the event. Both figures are the largest in the company's history for any event.
The previous record's were also from the ARCO Arena, when WEC 34 brought in 12,682 attendees and a live gate of $738,855. That event featured the first fight between Urijah Faber and Jens Pulver as well as the Bantamweight Title bout between Miguel Torres and Yoshiro Maeda.
Penick's Analysis: On every level, last night's WEC 41 event was the most successful event the company's brought to date. The hype for the main event led to this being one of the most anticipated in the first place, and it didn't disappoint. It's likely they broke their records for television ratings as well, and whoever turned in got one of, if not the, best shows the WEC has ever put on. You can't complain with seven fights making a free broadcast, especially when they're all good.
