Yushin Okami will challenge Dave Branch for the World Series of Fighting Middleweight Championship this October, according to a report from MMAFighting.com.
The bout will headline WSOF 15 on October 24 at a to-be-determined location, and will air live on NBC Sports Network.
Okami, the former UFC Title challenger and longtime veteran, made a successful WSOF debut in his last fight after an unceremonious release from the UFC. Taking on the overmatched Svetlozar Savov, Okami submitted him in the second round.
As for Branch, a former UFC competitor himself, he's on a four fight winning streak in the WSOF, most recently submitting Jesse Taylor with a fantastic performance at WSOF 10 to capture the title.
Penick's Analysis: This was the sensible fight to make, and I don't think many will expect Branch to be holding onto that belt. His win over Taylor was great, but Okami's on a different level. Okami should arguably still be in the UFC, where he'd still be a top 10 fighter despite his most recent loss to Jacare Souza, and he's more than likely going to be too much for Branch come October.
