The World Series of Fighting has been planning major expansions despite their relative infancy as an organization, and one of those idea may have been a bit too much, too soon.
According to a report from MMAJunkie.com, the WSOF is no longer running an event in Japan in August as they had discussed, instead bringing WSOF 12 to their home base of Las Vegas on August 9.
Lightweights Luis Palomino and Lewis Gonzalez are expected to meet on the card, while Ronny Markes will make his WSOF debut after his UFC release in a bout against Kelvin Tiller.
Palomino made a successful WSOF debut in January, knocking out Jorge Patino in the second round at WSOF 8. Gonzalez is undefeated at 9-0, and returns for the first time in nearly a year. In his last performance, at WSOF 4, Gonzalez defeated longtime vet Anthony McKee by decision.
Markes won his first three fights in the UFC to run a winning streak up to seven fights overall, but lost two in a row by (T)KO and was released this Spring. He'll look to bounce back against the undefeated Tiller, a three-time Bellator vet with four submission wins to his credit.
The August 9 event is expected to take place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
