Cage Warriors Fighting Championship have announced details of their latest plans to rejuvenate their light-heavyweight division. The organization announced this week the signing of eight new light-heavyweights into the division, with all fighters signing exclusive five fight deals with the promotion.
The following are the latest signees:
Arvdas Juska (2-0)
Darren Stewart (1-0)
James Hurrell (6-4)
Karl Moore (4-0)
Lloyd Clarkson (8-7)
Nick Nembherd (2-3)
Prince Aounallah (9-4)
Simas Norkus (3-2)
With the arrival of the eight fighters, Cage Warriors are determined to make the light-heavy division more active, as just four bouts have appeared in the eight events CWFC have put on this year.
CEO Graham Boylan has started to increase the organization's focus on the division, with a view to replicate the plans with the heavyweight division afterward.
"We've worked hard on building up out lighter weight divisions in recent times, but we're now keen to create the same level of depth in the heavier classes, starting at 205lbs," said Boylan. "Traditionally there's been a perception that the light-heavyweight and heavyweight divisions don't have the same quantities of talent as the smaller weight classes, particularly in the UK and Europe, but we're now going to give these guys a chance to prove people wrong.”
"It's all about giving the fighters the platform and the time to develop into top class fighters, which in a similar ethos to what we're aiming to do with our women's division, and we're very confident that this will be a success. I'm looking forward to seeing some very exciting and entertaining bouts in the Cage Warriors light-heavyweight division, and we hope to crown a world champion before the end of 2014."
The last fighter to hold the CWFC Light Heavyweight Title was UFC middleweight and UK superstar Michael Bisping, who won the belt back in April 2005, defeating Dave Radford via first round TKO.
Ian Dean Said: 'We've always specialised in the lower weight classes here at Cage Warriors Fighting Championshiop, but I'm looking forward to seeing a fresh impetus and a new set of contenders at light-heavyweight."
With these signings, Cage Warriors have identified a weakness in their promotion, and are putting things into place to make sure it becomes bigger and better.
