Tyrone Spong is back home in Florida and on the mend after breaking his leg at Glory 15 on Saturday in Istanbul.
The kickboxer and MMA competitor snapped his shin when he threw a kick to the thigh of Gokhan Saki, but while the nasty injury required surgery, it was a clean break and is expected to heal well. Spong released a statement on Monday afternoon via the Blackzilians website.
"I want my family, friends and fans to know that I'm okay. The trip home to Florida was a long one and I am thankful to be back in Florida. I had surgery this morning and it went perfectly."
"My Doctors said it turned out to be a clean break and they feel confident that I will recover 100%. They said I can be training for a fight as early as 6 months if I rehab properly. I feel very optimistic. Thank you all for your support."
PENICK'S ANALYSIS: Six months is massively optimistic given the nature of the injury, but Anderson Silva's been making very good strides with his comeback and recovery, and this was a clean break for Spong. Hopefully it's something he can come back strong from here, and we wish him a speedy recovery.
