The World Series of Fighting returns on June 14 with their third ever event on NBC Sports Network. The event is going to be headlined by the first appearance of Jon Fitch in the organization after his UFC release in February, and he'll be joined by another recently released fighter from the UFC.
Former UFC lightweight Jacob Volkmann confirmed this past week on Twitter that he'll be fighting on that card, taking on Strikeforce vet Lyle "Fancy Pants" Beerbohm. Volkmann was a similarly surprising cut as Fitch, having been released after just one loss in a row despite a 6-1 mark in the division prior to his loss to Bobby Green.
Now he takes his talents to the WSOF cage, and has a solid test against Beerbohm. "Fancy Pants" racked up a 16-0 record to begin his MMA career before suffering consecutive losses to top fighters in Pat Healy and Shinya Aoki in Strikeforce. Since then, Beerbohm's gone on another impressive run, winning six straight with five finishes since 2011.
In other World Series of Fighting news, another former UFC competitor has signed with the organization, as Tyson Griffin announced on Tuesday that he'd joined the roster.
I'm excited to say, I have a multiple fight contract with @mmaworldseries Thanks @sugarraysefo, @aliwsof & the people that put it together
