By: Alex Williams, MMATorch Contributor Mirko Cro Cop wrote on his blog that he is recuperating quickly from his knee surgery and wants a match in Dream with Alistair Overeem. He would like to fight him as soon as Dream 6 on September 28.
It is good for MMA fans if Cro Cop battles Overeem before a rumored Cro Cop/Fedor Emelianenko bout on December 31. For one, if Cro Cop is to rematch Emelianenko, a fight with Overeem could help rid Cro Cop of his ring rust. I can't imagine Cro Cop/Emelianenko being competitive if Cro Cop's skills are dulled by inactivity. BloodyElbow.com notes:
"By the time DREAM.6 rolls around, it will have been one year since Filipović's decision loss to Cheick Kongo and subsequent release from the UFC. In that time he's had two surgeries (the knee, plus an earlier deviated septum), myriad cancelled fights -- even a bizarre proposed grappling match -- and one 0:56 mauling of a clearly overmatched mid-tier Pancrase worker."
Second, if Cro Cop loses, then a different foe would probably be secured for Emelianenko, sparing us the likely squash of Cro Cop by the Russian that Cro Cop's losing to Overeem would signal. Overeem is a Top 15 fighter, but if Cro Cop cannot defeat him, he has no place stepping in the ring again with Emelianenko.
