WEC's normal color commentator Frank Mir will be off this Saturday when the WEC returns to Versus for WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz, as he is in the middle of training camp for his fight with Shane Carwin later in the month. In his place will be Stephan Bonnar, according to a report from MMAMania.com.
Bonnar has served on commentary before, at UFC 59: Reality Check, when he was on commentary for Forrest Griffin's first bout with Tito Ortiz. Mir is expected to return to the broadcast booth next month when the UFC debuts on pay-per-view with WEC 48 on April 24th.
Saturday's WEC 47 event features two major bantamweight bouts, with WEC Bantamweight Champion Brian Bowles making his first Title defense against Dominick Cruz in the main event. The co-main event features former Bantamweight Champion Miguel Torres against 135 lb. contender Joseph Benavidez.

Penick's Analysis: Bonnar's a good replacement on commentary. Kenny Florian stepped in the last time Mir was out, but with him also training for an event later this month he was likely unavailable for the gig. With Mir out, though, he won't be able to fawn over Torres as he normally does during the former Champ's fights. That said, the event won't suffer with Bonnar on commentary, and this should be another really good WEC event on Versus.
