A day after it was learned that WEC Lightweight Champion Jamie Varner will not be ready for a rematch this fall with Donald Cerrone due to a broken hand, a new report states that Cerrone may have an opponent for an Interim version of the Title.

Sam Caplan at FiveOuncesOfPain.com reported Thursday that the WEC is in talks to set up a bout between Cerrone and the 9-1 Ben Henderson. No date or time has been set for the potential bout.

Cerrone is coming off of a victory over James Krause earlier this month, winning by rear naked choke late in the first round. He initially took that bout to stay active while awaiting Varner's recovery.

Henderson has had two very impressive performances in the WEC, most recently a first round TKO over Shane Roller and then a second round submission victory over Anthony Njokuani early in the second round of his WEC debut in January.

Penick's Analysis: Henderson has looked very good in his two WEC fights and would very much be a threat to the ever improving Cerrone. For the sake of the Varner rematch that everyone wants to see people will likely pull for Cerrone, but Henderson can't be looked past in this bout. For an Interim belt it's one of the better match-ups they could have put together.
