Fiveouncesofpain.com reports that Zuffa will likely be aquiring the IFL for less than the IFL's $1,000,000 asking price. The significant assets Zuffa would obtain include over 400 IFL fights on tape, as well as the contracts of "heavyweight champion Roy Nelson, welterweight champion Jay Hieron, lightweight Deividas Taurosevicius, lightweight Chris Horodecki, lightweight Jim Miller, and featherweight champion Wagnney Fabiano." I imagine all of these fighters would compete in the WEC, with the exception of Big Country Nelson. Nelson, who physically resembles Tank Abbott, is not an easy fight for anyone, but I'm not sure the UFC will want a guy who looks like that competing on their events. It's completely unfair, but Nelson's appearance threatens to remind the casual viewer of barroom brawlers, an image the UFC wants to avoid.
Just a day after I called it "a fantastic fight," Dave Meltzer reports that the bout between Thiago Alves and Diego Sanchez, strongly rumored for the October 18 UFC, will not be taking place at that event. Meltzer says the match has not been signed and there is no other word on its status.
