Eighteen year old Sergio Pettis improved his professional MMA record to 2-0 with a solid victory over Michigan’s Tony Zelinski. The TKO finish came at the 1:59 mark of round two as referee Al Wichgers pulled Pettis off of his downed foe following a head kick and brutal ground and pound sequence.
Pettis, who made his professional MMA debut in September shortly after his 18th birthday, was makingformer UFC veteran Sean Salmon his hometown debut as a professional MMA fighter. The partisan crowd at the Potawatomi Casino Expo Center was overjoyed to see “The Phenom” light up Zelinski with a deep array of offensive weapons, as well as showing patience and solid fundamental skills.
The Duke Roufus trained kickboxer who is the younger brother of former WEC Lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, was able to put Zelinski away for good following a head kick.
In Friday night’s co-main event, former YFC fighter Sean Salmon was disposed of in 25 seconds by Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Joao Zeferino. Zeferino landed a heel hook almost immediately after pulling guard, forcing the larger Salmon to tap. Salmon, who weighed in at 196 pounds for the catchweight fight, lost to Joe Cason the last time he fought for the NAFC promotion. Zeferino, who is a jiu-jitsu instructor for Roufusport, earned his first victory seince taking a two year break from active competition.
Also impressive in victory on Friday night was Roufusport featherweight fighter Rick “Gladiator”Glenn, who defeated the talented Jose Pacheco by unanimous decision, Glenn, who improved to 8-2-1, used a diverse kickboxing game to dominate the standup portion of the fight. When the fight went to the ground Glenn was able to not only stay out of trouble, but did a good amount of damage from top position as well.
