The NFL's Minnesota Vikings may be off to an awful start for their 2011 campaign, but at least one "viking" had some success this weekend in state, as middleweight fighter Isaiah "The Striking Viking" Larson defeated former Green Bay Packer Herbert "Whisper" Goodman in the main event of Friday's "Riot at the Hyatt" in Minneapolis.

The 12 fight card featured a variety of fights from bantamweight to light heavyweight, with four amateur bouts and eight pro fights providing a fun night of MMA action for Minnesota fans.

Larson took two rounds of his fight with Goodman in the final bout of the evening, working decently in the clinch and attempting multiple takedowns. Goodman's takedown defense kept the fight standing for the most part, however, and in the third he finally turned up his striking output and took Larson down himself. Though he finished the fight with a flurry from the top, it wasn't enough after dropping the first two rounds.

In the night's co-main event, Mike "The Marine" Richman - a one-time Ultimate Fighter competitor - took out an entirely over-matched Chris Lane in just under two minutes. Richman patiently picked his strikes, and had Lane on edge as he walked him down. After knocking Lane down, Richman landed a few more strikes before Lane's corner stopped the assault.

A 140 lb. fight between Donald Williams and Floyd Hodges saw the 1-1 Williams put on one of his more impressive performances, dictating the pace of the fight on the ground and staying active enough to stay there. Williams used some fast paced takedowns to keep Hodges on his back, and through all three rounds he did damage from top position to earn a unanimous decision.

Nick Kirk remained undefeated with a decision victory over veteran Brian Learn, though there wasn't much to the fight. Kirk is a talented wrestler - not surprising coming out of The Academy - and he was content to take Learn down numerous times throughout the bout, holding position to earn two 30-27 scores from the judges. One judge didn't care much for Kirk's work on the ground, ignoring his takedowns and giving Learn two rounds of the fight; but Kirk still took the split decision.

The other four pro fights on the card each brought some exciting action to the cage, with stoppages coming in each of them.

After dropping a round to Wes Ronchi, Wisconsin's Dan Kiser locked on a guillotine choke early into the second round to force a tap, picking up his fifth career win. Chase Waldon and Reilly Griffin put on a very fun two minute fight, with Waldon battling through a hot start from Reilly to finish with a ground and pound assault.

Lloyd McKinney blasted Chad Vaudrin in a 130 lb. fight, landing an early flying knee and brutalizing Vaudrin on the ground. The fight came to an end when McKinney landed a brutal knee to the body with Vaudrin on his hands and knees, forcing Vaudrin to submit to the strikes.

Finally, a rematch between bantamweights Craig Early and Brandon Bucholz was a great back and forth fight. Bucholz landed an early slam, but Early swept him, only to have to battle out of a triangle choke attempt from Bucholz. After Bucholz got another slam takedown, Early locked on a guillotine choke. Bucholz tried to fight out of it, but was finally forced to tap.

On the amateur portion of the card, featherweight Academy product Andre Tieva remained undefeated with a decision victory over Nick Jessen. Tieva wore himself out after a round and a half, but held on ahead on the scorecards through the third to take the decision.

Light heavyweight Danyelle Williams and Tom Krenzel traded the first two rounds of their fight before Williams finished the fight in the third. Williams swept through a takedown from Krenzel and blasted him with strikes to finish just 38 seconds into the final frame. Another 205 lb. fighter in Jake Erickson earned a quick TKO win after a takedown into side control over James Clark, and in the opening bantamweight contest, Fikret Saric took out Adam Schlepp with a head kick and follow-up strikes on the ground.
