Minnesotan Courtney Buck made his WEC debut in December, taking a fight with Brandon Visher on a week's notice. WIth only a year and a half in the sport, Buck has accepted another fight on short notice for the WEC, and is stepping in for an injured Bryan Caraway to face Fredson Paixao on next month's WEC 47 event in Columbus, OH.
The WEC made the bout official Tuesday. For both fighters, a win is crucial following losses in the organization, and for Buck, he's not just looking to show up for this opportunity. "The WEC doesn't deal with losers," Buck told MMATorch.com on Tuesday. "If [Fredson] comes into this feeling like his back is against the wall he'll be staring against a guy with his back against the wall as well. So we're both going in there head strong, I just feel like I'm going to be victorious in the end."
Buck's December fight broke him out of the local scene in the surrounding Twin Cities and onto a nationally televised card on Versus, and now he's hoping to get another fight onto the Versus broadcast, but hopefully for a different reason this time. "Hopefully if I get out there and do what I can do I can make myself a footnote on what those [main card] guys do on the card," said Buck. "f I can keep my head focused, and like I said my stamina is a lot better than it was, then I think we'll come away with the 'W'."
"We've got a couple of weeks [to train] this time, I wish we would could have had this same opportunity last time, but man this is a great opportunity. I'm really enthused about it, I'm making sure I come home with a 'W'; I can't come home with a loss."
