Well, I'm officially too nice of a human being, and a total chump as well. "Sure Matt, I'd be glad to compile the contests for you this time. No problem at all." And then Matt sends me 47 emails. Believe it or not, administering this contest is a hell of a lot less fun than you might think, and I say that knowing that you don't think it's any fun at all. I would have much more respect for Matt for the effort he's put into this over the years, but, well, it's Matty. Screw him.
Anyhoooo, congratulations are in order for, um, let me check that name again? Can that be right? Of course it is. Congratulations to ME, MYSELF, and I for defending my Predictions title. I, Rich Hansen, your lovable MMA Blowtorch, it hurts to be this humble, went 8-3 in my picks for UFC 116, easily slaughtering and crushing the soul of poor Ryan Wankel. Wankel, let's face it, never stood a chance. 7-4 might be good in the minors, but not against me! Trust me, it was the most impressive 1-pick margin in the history of, um, margins?
As for the betting contest, Ryan Wankel did well, but well doesn't pay the bills (I wish that would have rhymed). Dom762 successfully defended his betting title at UFC 116.
So, that begs the question: Who are the next victims contenders?
I will be defending my Predictions title against Cambo "Rambo" Nelson. Cambo, along with 3 other contestants, successfully picked 9 fights. It came down to tie-breakers. Oh so close. The tension, the drama. STONE COLD! STONE COLD! STONE COLD! Congratulations are in order for Daley, Nick Underwood, lightning101, and Scott Hart. For while they tied for first, they avoided having to go mano y mano with yours truly next month.
Dom762, degenerate gambler that he is, will face a stiff challenge from the nearly anonymous Robert (how's about a last name, man!). Robert came oh so close to a perfect sheet. Had he flip flopped his Bonnar and Leben bets, he would have won the maximum possible for this event. Way to go, Mister almost anonymous Robert.
We have a long respite until the next contest, so everyone will have plenty of time to lay down their proper strategery for UFC Live on Versus 2 (Or UFC 117, whichever event Matt returns with).

Performer of the Night: As much as I think that *I* deserve this award for compiling 47 different entries, I will ever so generously exclude myself from the running (I feel like John Laroquette in the 80's, look it up). Robert had a near perfect sheet for bets, but didn't submit predictions. So Cambo "Rambo" Nelson is your performer of the night. He went 9-2 and won on tie-breakers. Winning on tie-breakers is what set him apart from Daley, who also went 9-2, but did earn $30 more than Cambo did. Ah screw it, they both win Performer of the Night.
Goat of the Night: Mule. Sorry, Mule, this one goes to you and you alone. There's no one low enough this month to share your indignity. You went 3-8, which was two picks worse than anyone else. You also managed to lose $470 at a show where 28 of 43 gamblers turned a profit. A major HEE-HAW to the GOAT of the night.

"There's still a large contingent of people, that they just want to see these guys almost die, or the other guy almost die and come back, and sometimes fights are like that. Certainly they are. But sometimes you get technical masterpieces too, and to hate a beautiful, technical fight - you're not really a fight fan...
Diaz has a granite chin, possesses perhaps the best recovery in the sport, his pace and conditioning are second to none and he sets records with the volume of his punches almost every time he steps into the cage. Nick Diaz is simply designed to fight the way he fights, and not many other fighters are...
"There was a lot of poison going on around there and I'm really disappointed because we had a good thing going. It was a good thing and I think people's egos got in the way. Well, not people just Javier, his ego got in the way, and too many cameras in the gym and him trying to build himself up and his brand, his AKA brand...
