Aug 30, 2009 - 11:46:12 AM By Matt Pelkey, MMATorch Columnist UFC 102 is in the books, which means so are the contests for the same event. No titles were on the line last night in the Octagon, but they sure were here in cyberspace. In the prediction title fight, I once again thrashed Jamie Penick, who was trying to regain his belt from the man who took it from him. We picked the same winner in 8 of the 11 fights so it came down to the three we disagreed on: Aaron Simpson/Ed Herman, Keith Jardine/Thiago Silva, and Gabriel Gonzaga/Chris Tuchscherer. Unfortunately for Mr. Penick, he picked Herman, Jardine, and Tuchscherer. That put me at an excellent 8-3, while Penick merely managed a paltry 5-6. He is now officially the Rich Franklin to my Anderson Silva. The Urijah Faber to my Mike Brown. I think two examples are enough. Moving on. Congrats to me, now the two-time (wait for it...) TWO-TIME defending Prediction Champion!
For the betting title, longtime contest participants Scott "The Fountain of Youth" Hart, now a three-time defending champ, and Rich Boles waged battle, with Hart once again coming out on top. Congrats to Hart, who has promised to finally write a guest review for UFC 103 as his reward for defending his title.
In the prediction pool, Scott Hart (he of the betting fame) lapped the rest of the field, going 9-2 while his next closest challenger only managed 7-4. He'll move on to battle me in an attempt to hold both belts simultaneously. Bring it Fountain.
The betting pool saw message board regular Norwegiannightmare hold off challenges from newcomer Mikey Fritz and Torch contributor Frank Hyden to earn a shot at Scott Hart at UFC 103. Congrats to the Nightmare. The full results follow:

Performer of the Night: Scott Hart, and it wasn't even close. Not only did Hart retain his title, he was the top better overall, he won the #1 prediction contendership, and was the top predictor overall as well. Can't do it much better than that.
Goat of the Night: Jamie Penick. The Boss got whooped in his bid for my prediction title and put up the goose egg on his bets. Better luck next time.

"There's still a large contingent of people, that they just want to see these guys almost die, or the other guy almost die and come back, and sometimes fights are like that. Certainly they are. But sometimes you get technical masterpieces too, and to hate a beautiful, technical fight - you're not really a fight fan...
Diaz has a granite chin, possesses perhaps the best recovery in the sport, his pace and conditioning are second to none and he sets records with the volume of his punches almost every time he steps into the cage. Nick Diaz is simply designed to fight the way he fights, and not many other fighters are...
"There was a lot of poison going on around there and I'm really disappointed because we had a good thing going. It was a good thing and I think people's egos got in the way. Well, not people just Javier, his ego got in the way, and too many cameras in the gym and him trying to build himself up and his brand, his AKA brand...
