Jul 15, 2009 - 9:43:07 AM By Matt Pelkey, MMATorch Columnist Well UFC 100 is officially in the books, and so are the corresponding contests here at MMATorch. Just as it was an historic night for the boys in Vegas, so it was here as finally (FINALLY!) your humble host, Matt Pelkey, was able to regain his rightful property: the Prediction Championship. Don't expect to be wearing this anytime soon folks. This belt is gonna (imaginarily) stay around my waist for a long, long time. Well either that or I'll lose it at UFC 101. At least that would be longer than my first title reign; three days, the shortest in contest history.
In my titanic battle with Torch editor Jamie Penick, I managed to best him 7-4 to 5-6. But lets be honest here, it wasn't even close. His fate had been sealed by the time Thiago Alves made his entrance. So congrats to me!
On the betting side, Champion Scott "The Fountain of Youth" Hart was able to successfully defend his title again despite a relatively lackluster performance. He only managed to hit on two $300 bets on favorites Brock Lesnar and Jim Miller for a total payout of $839.53, but it was enough to best Adam "I sure am glad I never officially bestowed the nickname 'Savant' on him because he would've proven me wrong in his first chance" Fabbro, who only managed one successful bet, $500 on GSP for a payout of $672.41. Congrats to Scott Hart on defending his belt! He now has the right to pen a guest preview for UFC 101 to be posted on the main site.
In the pools, the predictors were stronger than the bettors. The prediction scores ranged from 9-2 to 4-7 with message board regular Overkill outlasting a five-headed monster at 8-3. He'll move on to battle your's truly at UFC 101. Congrats to Overkill!
In the betting pool, it was a sad story. Out of all the participants, only one man was able to turn a profit. That man's name is Brian Fuller. Sticking with a plan of betting all $1000 on favorites, Fuller managed to make over $400 in profit. Several others came close, with losses of less than $100, but no one else broke even. Fuller, a veteran of the contests, will move on to face champ Hart at UFC 101. Pool results follow:

Performer of the Night: Brian Fuller. Fuller far-and-away out performed everybody on the betting side and was one fight away from being the #1 contender on the prediction side.
Goat of the Night: Adam Fabbro. A wasted title shot and a pool-worst 4-7 on the predictions. Not the best of nights for the would-be Savant.

"There's still a large contingent of people, that they just want to see these guys almost die, or the other guy almost die and come back, and sometimes fights are like that. Certainly they are. But sometimes you get technical masterpieces too, and to hate a beautiful, technical fight - you're not really a fight fan...
Diaz has a granite chin, possesses perhaps the best recovery in the sport, his pace and conditioning are second to none and he sets records with the volume of his punches almost every time he steps into the cage. Nick Diaz is simply designed to fight the way he fights, and not many other fighters are...
"There was a lot of poison going on around there and I'm really disappointed because we had a good thing going. It was a good thing and I think people's egos got in the way. Well, not people just Javier, his ego got in the way, and too many cameras in the gym and him trying to build himself up and his brand, his AKA brand...
