While it was a surreal event (in more ways than one) in Abu Dhabi for UFC 112, it was the status quo here at the Torch as both our champions successfully defended their belts. Prediction Champ Fernando Trejo held off challenger Scott "The Fountain of Youth" Hart 7-3 to 6-4 to keep his belt, while Betting Champ Jamie "The Boss" Penick beat down challenger Jordan "The King" McLachlan to keep his. Penick capitalized on $900 worth of bets to turn a tidy $675 profit, while The King only managed a $400 bet on Anderson Silva which basically just gave him his $400 back. Congrats to both champs who move on to UFC 113 to take on new challengers.
Those challengers come from the pool in the form of Kubi (predictions) and Da Black Panther (betting, and no real name given). Kubi tied with two others at 8-2, but held them off with a solid five correct rounds/methods. Da Panther used a $500 bet on Frankie Edgar (others put a few bucks on Edgar, but no one had the conviction of Da Panther) to lap the field. He nearly doubled second place Kubi, who himself more than doubled his money. Congrats to the new #1 contenders, and good luck at UFC 113! Results follow:

Performer of the Night: I'd love to give it to newcomer Da Black Panther, who not only topped the betting pool, but also came within one prediction of vying for the prediction #1 contendership as well, but the $500 bet on Edgar is a bit fluky, so I'm going with Kubi. He topped the prediction pool and used a smart, varied betting strategy to more than double his money. Kubi's consistent greatness should be rewarded.
Goat of the Night: Tony Shuck. It just wasn't the Shuckster's night as he went a contest-worst 3-7 on his picks and laid the goose egg on the betting. Mikey Fritz and Brooks Rittel narrowly avoided this dubious distinction.
