BELLATOR 108
NOVEMBER 15, 2013
LIVE FROM ATLANTIC CITY, NEW JERSEY

FIGHT ONE: PATRICIO FREIRE VS. JUSITN WILCOX (FEATHERWEIGHT TOURNAMENT FINALS)

- Wilcox comes in with a three inch reach advantage and is only an inch taller than Pitbull, but he'll be the much larger man in the cage tonight.

- Gasper Oliver is the referee for this bout.

ROUND ONE: Pitbull hurts Wilcox with a stiff jab early on. Wilcox is being very aggressive coming forward, and eats a left hook. And another drops Wilcox. Pitbull takes his back briefly. Wilcox reaches for a leg, so Pitbull backs off and lets Wilcox stand. Wilcox needs to stop walking straight into Pitbull's punches or he's going to be in a lot of pain tomorrow. Wilcoxeats a two puunch combination and staggers to the ground. Pitbull gets on top and pounds away. Wilcox gets back up and Pitbull drops him again. Wilcox is belly down getting teed off on, and this fight is over. Daniel Straus, be afraid. be very afraid.

WINNER: Patricio Freire by TKO at 2:23 of round one.

STAR RATING AND FINAL THOUGHTS: (**+) Pitbull is the best featherweight in Bellator. Literally, and I do mean literally every punch he landed hurt Wilcox. Pitbull outlanded Wilcox 30-4. The man is a monster. He beat Daniel Straus once, he's going to do it again.

FIGHT TWO: MARCOS GALVAO VS. TOM MCKENNA (BANTAMWEIGHT)

- At 5' 11" tall, McKenna is three inches taller than Galvao McKenna has a seven inch reach advantage. McKenna has never gone to decision in his career.

- The referee for this fight is Keith Peterson.

ROUND ONE: Galvao comes in behind a punch and gets McKenna's back. And he's got McKenna down. Galvao already has both hooks in. McKenna scoots towards the fence, which deflects some of Galvao's leverage. McKenna turns and Galvao has full mount. McKenna is trying to wriggle free but Galvao isn't giving him any space. Galvao is looking for an arm triangle, but McKenna's arm flies free. McKenna turns to his side and Galvao is looking for a choke. It's a weird position, so Galvao gives it up. To back mount, and Galvao starts pounding away. McKenna can't get out of the mount. big forearm from Galvao. Three solid left hands from Galvao. McKenna Scoots out the back door bu Galvao holds onto an arm and goes for an armbar. Nope. McKenna scrambles to his feet and we're standing. And now we're not. McKenna through a knee because he's smart and full of strategery. And his face is a mess. Galvao gets McKenna's back and pounds away again. Peterson has been warning Galvao to stop hitting the back of the head. Galvao doesn't listen and continues to punch the back of the head, so Peterson stops the fight and awards Galvao the win anyhow. Because you know, rules are rules for suckers.

WINNER: Marcos Galvao by TKO at 4:39 of round one.

STAR RATING AND FINAL THOUGHTS: (**) Galvao is good. McKenna isn't. Typical Bellator fight. The good fighters don't usually get good opponents because Bellator doesn't have very many good fighters on their roster. Galvao outstruck McKenna 55-1. Let that sink in for a few minutes...

FIGHT THREE: ALEXANDER VOLKOV VS. VITALY MINAKOV (HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP)

- The champion Volkov is three inches taller and has a three inch reach, but is fourteen pounds lighter than his former sparring partner Minakov. Big Dan is in charge of the action. Looking at both fighters during the staredown... that's more than a three inch difference in height.

ROUND ONE: Minakov catches Volkov with a knee and rushes him into the cage. Double underhooks for Minakov. Minakov goes for a belly to belly suplex but throws himself straight backwards and lands on his back with Volkov on top in mount. No worries, Minakov powers out of it and sweeps to top position. Full guard. Volkov is doing a decent job defending off his back. Minakov can't get his right hand free, so he's landing shoulder strikes and left elbows until they get stood up after about 40 seconds. Volkov eats a ferocious right hand and lands on his back. Minakov is pounding away. Volkov is trying to defend, but Minakov postured up and is relentless with his attack. It's all over. The stoppage might have been early, as most of the strikes were hitting Volkov's arms, and Volkov's head was still upright.

WINNER: (**) Bitaly Minakov by TKO at 2:57 of round one.

STAR RATING AND FINAL THOUGHTS: That suplex was ridiculous. Not ridiculous good, or ridiculous bad, just ridiculous. Decent entertainment, at least. Bjorn Rebney smiled and didn't shake his head when placing the belt on Minakov's waist. Good for him.

FIGHT FOUR: QUINTON JACKSON VS. JOEY BELTRAN - No Really (210 LB CATCHWEIGHT)

- Big Dan has drawn the main event assignment.

- Good staredown. No glove touching.

ROUND ONE: Rampage takes the center with Beltran circling. Rampage comes inside and Beltran puts Rampage on the cage. Rapage lands some soft hooks before disengaging. Lot of head movement out of Beltran as Rampage stalks him. Rampage is visibly frustrated with the dancing of Beltran. Rampage misses with a couple of lunging haymakers. Beltran has eaten a couple of low leg kicks so far. Beltran comes forward and puts Jackson on the fence again. Rampage can't get of fthe cage as Beltran continues to drive him back. Beltran is landing a ton of small uppercuts to the body. This is reminiscent of the Bader fight. Beltran backs off, Rampage throws a couple hooks, and Beltran puts Jackson back onto the fence. This is really smart by Beltran, as Jackson's biggest enemy is his own weak-mindedness. Beltran backs off with 25 seconds left. Rampage baits Beltran into a firefight with five seconds left and Beltran drops with 1 second left. The fight is over at 4:59 of round one. Bad stoppage? I'll have to see it again.

WINNER: Quinton Jackson by KO at 4:59 of round one.

STAR RATING AND FINAL THOUGHTS: (**-) That was dull, but the surprise nature of the finish bumped it up a bit. Beltran did a good job all week of making Jackson think he was going to trade firebombs with Jackson, but his actual strategy was to circle, dance, and put Rampage on the cage. Beltran got caught relaxing while waiting for the bell to sound at the end of the round. Rampage baited him into trading wild hooks and knees. Rampage caught him with back to back hooks which dropped Beltran to all fours. A punch or two the head dropped Beltran further, and Big Dan stopped the fight.

Rampage tells his weight class to look out. Why should they? does anyone think Rampage is going to enter a tournament where he has to fight three times in eight weeks? Don't think so. Of course, the scrupulous Bjorn Rebney could easily manipulate a 2-man tournament in order to get Rampage into a title fight after winning the third toughest tournament in sports. Maybe Babalu doesn't want to stay retired?
