BELLATOR 105
OCTOBER 25, 2013
LIVE FROM RIO RANCHO, NEW MEXICO

-No wasted time tonight to start the show, as Keith Berry and Eugene Fadiora are both in the cage.

FIGHT ONE: EUGENE FADIORA VS. KEITH BERRY (MIDDLEWEIGHT)

ROUND ONE: Berry came out and threw a few strikes, but Fadiora grabbed a clinch and took him down against the cage. Fadiora tried to pass, but Berry regained guard. Fadiora passed to half guard, then got out to side control. He got caught back in half guard as he tried to step over to mount. Berry tried to get his legs up for a triangle, but Fadiora got out and passed to side control. Berry tried to escape off the cage but got held on the ground. Berry got cut open over the left eye. Berry finally worked to his feet. Fadiora clinched briefly but let it go. Then Fadiora landed a strike late before the horn.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Fadiora. Clearly his round with the top control

ROUND TWO: Fadiora came forward early and landed some strikes. They clinched briefly. Berry threw an awful kick. Berry caught Fadiora with a strike, but got immediately clinched and taken down. He got to half guard and landed some elbows. He passed to side control and got to the crucifix but Berry kicked away. Fadiora got side control on the other side. He trapped the other arm and got the mounted crucifix and started landing a series of elbows. Berry used the cage to get out, and got caught in the crucifix on the other side. Berry wasn't offering up much defense as Fadiora landed a continuous series of strikes. He got the mounted crucifix again and the ref stepped in.

WINNER: Fadiora via TKO at 4:19 of the second round

STAR RATING: (*) Not a good fight. This was local prelims level for Bellator on the main card, just not much there. Berry had no answer from the bottom, and Fadiora was more patient than he was impressive.

-Bjorn Rebney announces the news from earlier in the day that next week's event is going to be on Spike TV instead of pay-per-view.

FIGHT TWO: MIGHTY MO VS. RON SPARKS (HEAVYWEIGHT)

ROUND ONE: Ron Sparks shot in for the slowest, worst looking takedown attempt I can remember on a major show, and wound up on his back with Mighty Mo in side control. Mo scored a little bit of offense from the top. The crowd booed the lack of action on the ground. Sparks was essentially stuck in that position as Mo failed to do much. Mo grabbed a mounted crucifix and landed a couple of strikes. He transitioned to the Americana attempt and Sparks tapped. Just. I don't. I mean. Yeah. That was a thing.

WINNER: Mo via submission (Americana - announced as keylock) at 2:52 of the first round

STAR RATING: (*-) That was such low level MMA it's ridiculous it was on a main televised card anywhere. Sparks' takedown attempt was just absolutely terrible, and then he put up no resistance as Mo set up a really slot submission hold. There was so much wrong with that fight being on TV for anyone.

FIGHT THREE: TIGER SARNAVSKIY VS. RICARDO TIRLONI (LIGHTWEIGHT TOURNEY SEMIFINAL)

ROUND ONE: Sarnavskiy walked Tirloni down and immediately dropped him with a spinning back fist right to the face! That was sick, but Tirloni recovered after the knockdown as Sarnavskiy worked from the top. Tirloni got on top, but Sarnavskiy locked on a triangle and forced the tap. Quite impressive from Sarnavskiy tonight.

WINNER: Sarnavskiy via submission (triangle choke) at 1:08 of the first round

STAR RATING: (**+) Really good work from Sarnavskiy. The spinning back fist was perfect, and that triangle was excellent as well. Very good win to move on to the finals.

-They air the preliminary card bout between Des Green and Angelo Sanchez, which featured Sanchez suffering a disgusting cut which brought an end to the bout.

MAIN EVENT FIGHT FOUR: SAAD AWAD VS. WILL BROOKS (LIGHTWEIGHT TOURNEY SEMIFINALS)

ROUND ONE: Awad landed an early leg kick, but it got caught and Brooks took him down into side control. The crowd quickly got restless to little action. Awad used the cage to get out. Brooks threw what looked like an illegal knee without Jason Herzog intervening, though it could have hit the chest. Regardless, Awad scrambled and got to full mount. Brooks got out and got back up to his feet. Brooks stood up and took an up-kick before dropping down with a few strikes. He passed to side control. He got the mounted crucifix and landed a few strikes to close out the round.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Brooks. He had more control on top, though Awad had a few moments.

ROUND TWO: Brooks moved forward and threw a couple of leg kicks early. He tried to taunt Awad and Awad yelled back at him in frustrated fashion. Brooks got in a body kick. He landed a right. Awad locked up a guillotine as Brooks got in close, but he quickly let it go. Brooks tried to work from the half guard. Awad swept and got to his feet. Awad landed a left. Brooks shot in and scored an easy takedown. He tried to pass to side control but Awad regained guard. Awad caught Brooks in a triangle choke late but didn't have enough time.

Penick's Scorecard:10-9 Brooks Top game's keeping Awad out of this right now. He needs a finish in the third.

ROUND THREE: Brooks started with a couple of leg kicks. Brooks went for a takedown and Awad swept. Brooks worked back to his feet. As Awad missed a strike, Brooks took his back standing and dragged him down. Awad worked to his feet and got separation. Awad looked defeated. Then he took a shot and landed a couple. He taunted Brooks, then got taken down. They got stood up quick. Awad tried to walk forward to get Brooks into a firefight. Brooks took him back down into side control. Brooks got in a knee to the body. Awad briefly got to his feet and got taken down again.

Penick's Scorecard: 10-9 Brooks. Awad looked awful in this fight. Brooks fought smart - though dull - and scored the takedowns he needed to win the fight.

WINNER: Brooks via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

STAR RATING: (*+) Dull fight. Not much more to say on that. Awad had no answer for the takedowns.
