After a two and a half month break following the season eight finale in April, Bellator returns to Spike TV tonight with their first summer series event for 2013. Tonight's main card features the Bellator debut of War Machine, alongside the opening round fights in the four-man light heavyweight and heavyweight tournaments for the summer series events.

Fight 1: Welterweight: Blas Avena Vs. War Machine

Round 1:

Avena and War Machine come out strong and hit the grown momentarily. They exchange some leather and then War Machine scores a takedown. Avena works his way up the wall while War Machine lands some right hands in the clinch. They break and War Machine is stalking Avena and throws a wild left hook and misses. Avena threw a nice combo and War Machinne ducks under and Avena shoots. War Machine's back is to the cage. War Machine lands an outside trip and gets in Avena's half guard. War Machine works ground and pound and gets to side control. He traps the other arm and gets a crucifix. War Machine reigns down left hands while holding the crucifix. After about twenty unprotected shots to Avena's head the ref calls it.

War Machine def. Avena via TKO - R1: 3:55

Fight 2: Heavyweight Tournament Semifinal: Ron Sparks vs. Vitaly Minakov

Round 1:

They feel each other out and then Sparks moves in with combos. Minakov clinches and throws knees and then they break. Minakov lands a great right hand and then follows up on the collapsing Sparks until Big John calls it. Great timing by Minakov.

Fight 3: Heavyweight Tournament Semifinal: Rich Hale vs. Ryan Martinez

Round 1:

Rich Hale starts letting his hand go. Martinez is being patient. He goes in strong with a looping hook. Martinez lands a takedown and works Hale to the cage. He stands up and lands a shot to Hale's stomach while he is grounded. Martinez dodges an up-kick and clubs Hale to a stoppage.

Martinez def. Hale via TKO - Rd: 2:19

Fight 4: Light Heavyweight Semifinal: Jacob Noe vs. Babalu Sobral

Round 1:

Noe is attempting to press the action, and Sobral evades. Sobral shoots and backs Noe to the cage. Sobral lands a strong low kick. Another one, and Noe comes in with a combo. Again Noe with a left right. Sobral backes him up with a missed front kick to the face. Sobral with another low kick, and Noe tries to counter. Sobral shoots again and Noe sprawls. Sobral divs in with a left to the face. sobral shoots and Noe shoots. Sobral's back is to the cage. He throws a knee that hits Noe in the groin. The ref calls town. The touch glove and get back to it. Sobral throws a high kick. and Noe is starting toc ounter low kicks with a two punch combos. Now throws a round kick as the bell rings.

Round 2:

Sobral opens with a high kick. Noe backs him up with a pair of punches. Sobral is doubling up his jabs to get in. Noe gets clipped and Sobral shoots. Noe sprawls and knees Sobral. Sobral knees Noe in the groin again. The stop the clock, and get back to it. Noe just threw a kick. sobral is diving in with a jab. He keeps landing the jab. Noe is charging forward, but Sobral is landing the cleaner shots. Noe throws a kick to mix it up. Blood dripping down Noe's face. Sobral is landing low kicks to the lead leg and he is snipping Noe with that jab. Sobral with the leg kicks again. Sobral lands a jab and taunts Noe. He continues to tag Noe. He backs up and and taunts as the bell rings.

Round 3:

sobral leads out with the striking as Noe seems to be slowing. Sobral shoots for a takedown and does not get it. Noe lands a big left hook that rocked Sobral. Noe chases and keeps clubbing Sobral. Sobral is hanging in as the blood pours out. Noe keeps rocking Sobral and the ref stops the fight as Sobral stumbles around the ring trying to clear his head.

Fight 5: Light Heavyweight Semifinal: Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal vs. Seth Petruzelli

Round 1:

Petruzelli comes outs with a big kick that misses. Lawal shoots and a headbutt to the eye stops the action. They reset. Petruzelli with a round house. Lawal attempts to catch another kick. Lawal shoots and gets a takedown. Petruzelli is swinging from his back. Lawal clears the legs and dives in to land a strikes. Petruzelli strikes from his back again. Lawal clears the legs twice more and lands a giant right hand to Petruzelli's jaw the last time. Petruzelli's eyes roll back and he is out! Lawal sees he is out and walks off without a follow up. B-R-U-T-A-L. Wow!

That covers the live portion of the Bellator 96 Summer event. All of tonight's fights ended via TKO or KO. There was a lot of action setting the stage for the debut of Fight Master that follows the evening's broadcast.
