The first Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion was crowned on Saturday night at Bellator 45 in Lake Charles, La., as Christian M'Pumbu defeated fellow finalist Richard Hale. In addition to his title win, Patricio "Pitbull" Freire earned another shot at Bellator Featherweight Champion Joe Warren with a decision win over Daniel Strauss in the season four featherweight tournament.
M'Pumbu's win came in the third round of their bout on MTV2, where he finished Hale with a barrage of strikes after likely splitting the first two rounds. The TKO finish was M'Pumbu's third stoppage win in as many fights in the Bellator season four light heavyweight tournament, the inaugural tournament in the division.
Freire picked up a unanimous decision win over Strauss to take the season four featherweight tournament and the title shot that went along with it. He'll now get a chance to avenge his only career loss, suffered by split decision in the season two featherweight tournament final in a fight that he nearly finished in the first round.
In other action on the night's card, one-time Strikeforce competitor and M-1 prospect Karl Amoussou suffered a split decision loss to Sam Alvey.
